Hello,

I have a 2001 Doblo 1.9 diesel, and am having some trouble.

when I drive I am having no problems, but when I stop for traffic, roundabouts etc the engine cuts out and I have to restart it.

This happens once the engine is warm, and if I go long distances, when it happens the engine warning light comes on.

My brother has changed my fuel filter, and put a can of something in my diesel, but it is still doing it.

Any help would be gratefully received.

you really want to get that fault code read.. then you'll have an idea what the fault making the engine lose the ability to idle is..,
EG , could be low fuel pressure, or a timing problem,
where are you based..??,

I had a 2001 1.9 diesel from new. In 2007/2008 it started cutting out when idling but no pattern to it so I sort of ignored it. After a while it became difficult to start straight away and became a bit embarrassing in traffic queues so took it in for a diagnostic. The codes came back showing a problem with the high pressure fuel pump. It got sufficiently bad that I had to do something about it. Mileage was 103K. The cost of a new pump (and some doubt about calibrating it) made me swap it for a new Multijet 120.

Just a quick update,

Have cleaned the EGR valve and it seems to have helped a bit.

One thing I have noticed is that there is a lot (more) black smoke from the exhaust than usual when you rev the engine, its popping and sputtering, and when it does there is plumes of black smoke from the rear pipe.

Could this be a symptom of something?

sounds like it's overfuelling ( BLACK smoke)

try without air filter element,

no MIL / fault codes..?

Have changed the fuel filter, and replaced the egr valve but no joy. run better for a short while but started to hesitate and cut out again. Am hoping to hook it up to get codes tonight...
