It seems like the timing belt has snapped or jumped. The car has done 65,000 miles.


What are the chances the engine is damaged?
Would it be best to run a compression test before doing anything else?

DO NOT crank engine until belt is assessed and re-timed correctly.

IF belt is broken.. remove head and inspect damage.. LOTS of JTD belt failure threads on here ( punto 2 section mainly)

I think we are going to remove head and see what damage has occurred. I have been looking for another engine and the cheapest is around £1000!! Car is only worth around £4k. Don't know what to do. Doubt I will get much for a car with dud engine???

The problem is I don't get time to investigate and I'm not taking it to a Fiat garage, I just don't have that sort of money. Does anybody know of a good diesel fitter in or around Bexleyheath, Kent that would be interested in getting involved?
