Hi, my 03 Doblo has developed a rattle down towards the front offside wheel. Doesn't sound like an engine type rattle could be down towards the belts area but not really sure.Noise doesn't change when clutch is depressed either.
Is there anything down there that can catch on anything ?
Don't want to drive too far with it like this though.
Any thoughts ?

Is the noise there all the time even if engine is idling if it is i would remove poly v belt and see if noise disappears. It could be alternator, pas pump, tensioner or a/c pulley,if you have a stethoscope or long screwdriver you can very carefully place it on each part and listen for the noise with engine running, you will know as noise is amplified through stethoscope or screwdriver.Let us know when it is you hear the noise, the auxillary belt tensioner on 1.9 jtd are notorious for being noisy for a few minutes on cold start up.

Hi, thanks for reply ! It just started today but it is quite a loud rattle and it is not just on start up but whilst driving too.
I am a bit concerned that if I drive it I may do more damage though.
Doesn't seem to be in time with engine revs if that makes sense.

What about if you push clutch pedal down does that make any difference,so is noise road speed related rather than engine speed?

Folks, took the Doblo to my mech today for a quick recce and he reckons the noise sounds like it is coming from above the aux belt. Reckons it could be cambelt-water pump related though I always thought the cambelt just snapped like on my Alfa Gt (Loadsa money). Rattle sounds like it is almost something broken or catching - no difference if clutch is down or doesn't seem related to road speed either. What is the sound of the aux tensioner when the rubber bit goes is that like a rattle. Also mech reckons £220 to £250 for cambelt and water pump change supply and fit is this a fair price ?
Cheers

I now have another guy who could do the cambelt cheap but does not have the locking tools are these expensive or will other makes ie alfa fit ? Cheers

Right folks - mech had a proper look reckons cambelt was loose causing the rattle ! Reckons it was a (I think a uniroyal cambelt) reckons not too great make ??
He wants £250 for cambelt and waterpump change supply and fit is this a decent price ?
Cheers
Mark
