Hi

has anyone fitted HID's to their Doblo? i've got a 2006 Cargo & would like my headlights to give a bit more light. I've tried different bulbs like 4300k ultra white etc & they do seem a bit better but would like them to be better still.

BTW i'm not interested in how they look, such as i'm not fussed about trying to give them a blue tinge etc with 8000k bulbs. I want to be able to see more clearly :)

thanks

Craig

I want to be able to see more clearly :)

While blinding everyone on coming or in front of you meaning that they cannot see more clearly (n)

HID's are illegal to retro fit to OEM reflector headlight units and for good reason. There is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent the light scatter caused by HIDs unless you're retro fitting projector units. This is before you start looking at a self levelling system, and headlamp washers.

Stick to the uprated bulbs you've been using to date, and if you're still not happy use a lens cleaning kit to clean up the headlight units which should give you better light output (y)

Surely if they were that much brighter that they blinded everyone then the Police & VOSA would be a lot more strict. I get blinded all the time & it's usually by newer cars that have brighter headlights from the factory.

For what the HID costs these days I may just try them anyway. If they're way to bright or have bad light scatter I'll remove them. If they don't blind people & the light doesn't scatter then I don't see the harm in them.

To be fair the Ebay ones such as the Ultra Bright or White, or whatever they are have always been a good improvement over the standard bulbs that were fitted. I put them in our car & I could tell an improvement.

However I'm out in the van more as it's my work chariot. We live a bit out in the sticks so once out of the village there's no street lights.

I may give the osram unlimited a go. Think they're only about £15 a pair

i too am out in the sticks and had hids before in a punto with projector lenses and they didn't blind anyone, i then got a croma with normal lens lights fitted the same hids and blinded everyone so i switched to the osram night breaker ones the light length and colour was about the same as my hids but beam patten was a lot better so people coming the other way stopped flashing me.

I've just ordered the osram night breaker unlimited & some led ones! May as well give them both a go! Lol

Because they're governed and have the same detrimental effects that HIDs do (n)

Fit some driving lights (y)

Ah bugger! didn't know they were governed like HID's! I'm fine when i have the full beam on. It's my normal main beam i'd like to be a bit brighter. Although i had also been looking at some small spots to improve full beam as well. It's the main beam i'm concentrating on first though

well, i fitted the Osram & tbh i think they're crap compared to the other bulbs i had previously. Yes the immediate area in front of the van seemed a bit brighter but they actually beam length was shorter so couldn't see as far. They're also more yellow than the other bulbs!

So.......overall not too impressed so i'm glad i remembered i had some of the original bulbs fitted into the full beam. So replaced those with the Osram & put the other "whatever cheap brand but better!" bulbs into my main beam! So now i can see properly again! Just wish i can remember where i got those original bulbs from as they're different to the 5000k Ultra Bright bulbs i got off Ebay i've also used

no didn't get photos. If I get time i'll swap them over again & go take some photos. Plenty of pitch black lanes around here to show range & pattern
