Hi fellow Fiat 1.3JTD masochists ! (y)
Please help me confirm the number of parts in the piston assembly for the 1.3JTD engine .Mine slid out of its aluminum holder onto the garage floor where it proceeded to explode into pieces aided by its pre-tension spring . After gathering up all the parts i could find , i hope members familiar with this assembly would be able to confirm that i haven't missed something .
Second question : When locking the crankshaft with an 8mm pin for cam timing purposes , are the pistons all at the same level approximately half-way down in their bores ?

Regards
Garth

I worked on this engine in the vaux combo. From memory only a spring under the tensioner plunger. These can be pretty fragile and eith poor servicing dont last long . So long as the pins ib the flywheel and the cam is locked its correct. Not 100 % sure but think pistons ar all level when locked. Dont fit just a chain as the guides wear as well. When all is new abd correct the engine will show cam position fault before it does damage.

Thanks for the info Ken . Engine is assembled and running again . The pistons are level about half way up their bores when the flywheel is pinned . I guess this allows cam positioning without the danger of interference on the pistons .
