I have an 56 Doblo 1.9 120hp which is intermittently showing the fault "c-can line error" when plugged in to ecuscan.
Problem is, when this fault is present, it prevents the DPF regenerating so whenever a regen is 'due', the engine goes into limp mode and the engine failure light comes on. This typically occurs just as you get on a motorway...

If I can get rid of the c-can line error, I'm pretty sure the DPF will look after itself. I removed it and cleaned it out about a fortnight ago and it has been fine since, completing 5 regens of decent durations and was showing 20% clogged when I last checked, but now the c-can line error is back and it won't regen.

Any ideas where to look for the error ? Am I correct in thinking it relates to the diagnostic circuit ? I have played with the connector to the ignition key receiver and also applied contact cleaner to every multi-plug I can get to under the dash and in the engine bay, and the fault disappeared but it might be coincidence ? I have no idea where I should be looking specifically.

Rarely, I also get a fault code relating to the key not being present (stored fault, never present), and LOTS of bulb warnings/bulbs working intermittently, usually just before engine light comes on !

I think the code is P1601, but thats from memory.

Any insight welcome !

Is the can error only coming up in all the modules or just the engine ? The easiest way to test the can at the DLC id probe pins 6 and 14 with a multimeter you should see approx 1.5v on one and 2.5v on the other that will only tell you that can h and can l are working I suspect you may well have an issue with another module on the vehicle you really need a can wiring diagram and a good scope tbh to get to the bottom of it

Hey, thanks I never thought to check the other modules I'll definitely look next time the fault code appears - it's gone again now, although there was a stored code for l/h front sidelight on the body module (r/h was out earlier when dashboard warning came on but was working by the time I opened the bonnet to change the bulb!) What is the DLC and I will check the connections you suggest.

I removed the plastic from around the steering column to fiddle with the immobiliser ring and in doing so the c-can fault disappeared (before I touched any components) however since then the dashboard immobiliser light came on which is a new development!

Will try a forced regeneration later just to check it's possible otherwise it's exhaust off again tonight - need to drive to Cornwall tomorrow!

DLC - data link connector where you plug your scan tool in
Does sound like a connection issue somewhere tbh can bus is pretty sensitive tbh
5 regens in 2 weeks sounds a lot tbh is the pressure sensor reading ok ?
