I have only owned my 10 plate doblo for 2months and have constantly been having a problem with it going into first gear. It doesn't go in properly then jumps out as you pull off.It is also sometimes awkward to get into 4th when coming down from 5th. It has been returned to the dealership twice with the problem and still not been sorted.

They are now telling me that it is because it has a 6 speed box and this happens to them all. They tell me they have others on the forecourt that all do the same. The dealership is 50 miles away we went there as it is the car version and our local dealership despite being a very large one told us they can never get the used one in the car version only vans. Our doblo is the 1.6 diesel multijet we have taken it to our local dealership and they say they have never heard of this problem and when the mechanic tried himself he said either the gearbox needed realining or it needed a new one.

The dealer who sold us the car is saying they will not replace it and even if we return it again they will not do anything to it. We are now concidering getting in touch with trading standards my husband told them this and all they said was they would take me out in it as it was most likely my driving. Sorry but no it happens with my husband driving and the mechanic driving so not just me. We are also thinking of phoning the finance company and telling them we are not paying until the car is sorted.

Before we go this far my question is has anyone any idea is this a general problem with the gear box or should they replace it under the warrenty? The warrenty was only 30 days but the car has been back twice during that time. Of these 30 days the car spent 13 days with them and they have now extended the warrenty on the gear box for another 3 months but are refusing to sort out the problem.

Sounds like the dealer you bought the car from are giving you the runaround. What mileage as the car done? Asking in case it's high mileage as opposed to average/reasonable and they start on the normal wear and tear escape route. Have you been in touch with Fiat customer services direct? If 'no' I would if only to register your case and explain that the fault was present within the dealer's 30 day warranty. Take it that the car was bought from a Fiat main dealership. What sort of manufacturers warranty did Fiat give with this model? Might be an arguing point if it's just outside the manufacturers warranty. Should you get lucky and Fiat do part support your case I would put money on it that the selling dealership will more willing to amicably resolve the case.
Another thought would maybe get an independent report from the AA or RAC that states that indeed there is a fault with vehicle - might help with trading standards if your unfortunate and have to go down that route.
Best of luck with it.

Yes the car did come from a dealership Woodleigh in Chesterfield is the main garage but they have another garge in Grassmoore which is were we got the car from. The milage is quite high just under 84 thousand when we bought it but I have an older doblo 53 which has 185 thousand and no problems with its 5 speed box.

I have no idea what the manufactures garentee was with this model as we have only had it for 2 months we have offered to take the car to our local fiat dealership and get them to do a report on the problem but they have told us that even if we do do that they will still do nothing as their own gear box 'expert' has said there is not a problem with it.

I will get in touch with fiat customer services and see what they say

Thank you for your advise.

I have phoned Fiat customer services as the have failed to reply to my email. Apparently Woodleigh in Chesterfield is not an approved Fiat dealership they may advertise they sell Fiats but they are not on Fiats dealers listings.

Customer services put me through to an approved dealer and they said it is not a problem known to them and as they see it to phone them one more time tell them if they don't sort it out we are going to contact both the finance company and trading standards and are putting it into their hands. As far as the person I spoke to sees it we have a good case as we have done everything we can as the customer to get the car sorted. He also said the same as we have that profit margins are most likely coming into their refusal to sort it out. He also said to ask them why if it is as they say a standard problem with the car why have a) Fiat not recalled them and b) why have they already thrown money at it the 2 times we have taken it back.

Just to let you know the problem with the gear box has still not been resolved. Fiat and other dealerships say there is not a problem with any of the gearboxes or it would have been recalled. It is now in the hands of the finance company.
