At 213,000 miles the igntion barrel decided to no longer accept a key. Now, to remove the barrel, you need the key to work. After alot of faffing and spray oil, this wasnt happening. The application of a large torque converter solved the issue by taking the whole ignition barrel clean off (the plastic was very brittle).
So, I can now start the car without the key - the transponder is taped to the induction loop and the engine is started via the plastic switch that sits at the end of the barrel. The keys sit in the tray by the gear knob just like my neighbours' Evoque - in fact I can clearly see the jealousy as my keyless ssystem didnt cost me £47,000...
:slayer:
It only has to last until August when tax/ mot/ insurance is due and it will be decision time whether to keep the old thing or not.
Punto/ Doblo bits are interchangeable so might stick a new one on.
