I still think it could be an electrical issue, if there are voltage problems, this engine will sit mute.

Crank & cam sensors have to talk to one another, so if the timing is out one or two teeth, the signals will miss. A bit like two doors have to be open to allow people to talk. If one door is closed, the people can't communicate.

I still say live data test. If the timing is spot on, I would be looking at the alternator, battery output, earth connections, ignition connections.....

Some people seem to concentrate on pump and such, but should really be more open minded.

If you were local, I would only charge if I managed to fix it. Where are you?

Clutching at straws for you, have you tried disconnecting the fuel feed pipe off at the fuel filter in the engine bay? Let the fuel travel up through the filter and disconnect from post filter. Although the priming pump in the tank is working, doing the pipe disconnect could potentially give you an idea that enough fuel is being pushed up with adequate pressure to prime the main pressure pump. Once the main pressure pump kicks in the stronger sucking up will take over and potentially will overcome any slight blockages that may exist in the fuel feeding lines. The tank priming pump doesn't create that much pressure so any slight blockages in the line may cause a restriction whilst trying to prime the main pump. Just a thought.
The other thing is there a fuel pressure valve/sensor that may be giving you grief?
