Royal Mail locally has a fleet of new diesel Doblos. Tonight the postman was parked sitting in his Doblo with the bonnet up and running at a fast tick-over. The postman said what a great drive the new Doblo is but twice a week they are having to wait for the DPF light to extinguish.

Given the ‘mission profile’ of a Royal Mail’ van, it sounds like a really questionable choice!

I had heard something similar from an acquaintance who is a Vauxhall mechanic. Mine generally does shortish journeys at the moment, so once a month I drive it the 90 minutes on the motorway to work and ensure a good part of the journey is done at 3000 revs rather than 2000. I have not had any DPF trouble with mine so far. (y)

Choice of van depends a lot on price, as well as size and usefulness. They tried a batch of Bippers (Fiorinos), but these are too small, and still have the same DPF issue.

why did he have bonnet up it will take longer if its cold.

Because he's a postman, he's good at sorting and delivering your mail.

I couldn't believe it when my local postie turned up in a diesel Doblo a few weeks ago. He was amazed but not surprised they had bought them, price was a big factor. I think Fiat must be almost giving them away:rolleyes:

He told me the regen light comes on, he then has to pull in somewhere and then follows some sort of procedure. I think switches off the engine, then switches back on with feet on 2 pedals ? then the computer takes over and does an automatic regen which takes about 15 mins. This happens about twice a week:D

As they are issuing the new Doblos, they get a written instruction of what to do when the light comes on. It seems to be working well and saving a lot of workshop time. Nice to see a postman interested and willing to bother. Some don't.

Some have the Doblo XL. Long wheelbase and high roof. 7.125m high and the same wide. There have been a few roofs damaged!
