Hi .. Bought a 1.3 multijet 55kw Doblo -08 the other day for a realy nice price. and i knew that there were gonna be some work on it..

But i wasnt prepared for this thing since the car runs just fine..

Just got home from the carinspector thing.. dont know the english word for it.
And i got a p0401 code..

Now heres the thing that i wonder about. I got a "whining" sound, kinda like the old days when u could hear the "alternator i think its called " through the stereo..but slightly sharper.

It goes with the rpm. The car runs alright. glowplug light flashes after start but its -10 and it starts just fine..

Now, can the whining sound come from a leaking hose and i hear the Turbo, and therefor the p0401 occurs? just a thought, havent got time to check ..

Any tips or ideas where to start..

"sorry for my english.. swedish dude here!":slayer: (y)

The fault code pertains to an EGR valve fault. Very possibly it needs cleaned out.

The whining sounds like a timing belt idler or a tensioner rather than the turbo. But these don't have a belt, these engines have timing chains and DO suffer loosening of the tensioner bolts

I would have this checked ASAP, before you drive it!

Although, without the benefit of actually being there, I can't be certain (that's the trouble with describing a noise online....someone hears a whine where i would hear a buzz...you get the problem) I can't say for certain what it really is.

However, it could just as easily be a bearing in the aux drive belt tensioner, water pump or diesel pump

A quick check for alternator is simple, remove the drive belt and spin it by hand to hear any noises/rough feeling. I can't recall if they have a belt tensioner, but check that too if it has a rough feel as you turn it.

Then, start the engine briefly and see if the noise disappears. If it does, it is aux belt related...

Thank you for giving me some tips..

Is there a good guide somewhere on these engines..? did a search but with no luck..

It doesnt sound when i stand still though.. already tryed to listen for it.. it only appears when i drive the thing and no its not a wheel bearing.. and its hard to fit a dude inside the engine room while i drive..

Apperntly i cant add and URL until i made 5 posts but there is a video on youtube search for "whine sound". A dude by name jason ibrahim put it out about 4 years ago.

Hi, and welcome,

look in the Panda + 500 sections for more info on this 1.3 diesel engine,

A pulley is a wheel that carries a drive belt,
so you have 1 on the alternator/ generator, and another on the crankshaft / output shaft of the lower engine, ( your English is fine- it's strange "technical" words that are unususal), ;)
