Hi guys,

Hope you're all well and ready for Xmas!

I've recently bought a 2001 fiat doblo and it has developed a fault all of a sudden.

When driving its gone into limo mode (three times its happened and its been at night - day driving has yet to develop a fault?!) its happened once when overtaking and twice when slowing down to go round roundabouts.

I've had the ecu read and the following codes came up -

P0380 - preheating relay circuit (glow plug light does flash for abit once started)
P0510 - flow modification throttle
P0253 - rotor position sensor flow at minimum

Could anyone advise what this could be?

Thanks alot

you most likely need a new high pressure fuel pump, common fault.

To confirm you need to compare your target and actual rotor sensor positions (measured in mm's) even out by 1mm or slow to respond means new pump.

I recommend trading it in for a turbo version which doesn't use the crap lucas epic system but you might be lucky to pick up a second hand pump on flea bay but does it work properly?

Thank you for your reply.

Damn!

Are these pumps an expensive change?

It happened today in a very odd way. The speedo cut off right to zero whilst I was doing 60 on a motorway!?

Most definitely shafted with this 'sold as seen' heap!

new pumps are around £800, reconditioned around £450, second hand varies.

You should of came here first for some info before buying, in general we avoid the 1.9 non turbo because of this although there are many around but pumps seem to last 60k then start giving trouble, the 1.9 turbo does not use the lucas pump.

However you might be able to find a decent one on ebay, worth a look, fitting is around 3 hours and advise changing timing belt at this time. First however i would advise getting it diagnosed 100%

EDIT...ebay £285

So the turbo version is the jtd? If so could this be fitted onto the non turbo model? As i see one on ebay for £275+postage.

Is it pretty straight forward to check the rotor position?

Taking the codes into consideration it would seem to be the pump yes? If only it could be a wiring problem ey!

I absolutely detest this van already, all i want is reliability as its a works van. Thats gone completely out of the window now!

Doblos are very reliable hence their use as work vans and taxis etc. I myself own 2 with high mileages on their clocks and wouldn't consider anything else.

Research and being careful when buying is the key in the second hand market with any car.

Many thanks for your replys.

Spending that kind of money would cost more than I spent on the van.

Will the situation get worse? Is it ok to drive in the meantime? Think i may sell it as spares/repairs. Shame cos its in mint condition other than the possible fuel pump problem!

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you!

Hi. Is there a topic on here to sell vans?

Im thinking of selling it to someone who understands fiats better and has the time to work on it.

Looking to sell on for a fraction of its book value to be fair.

Thanks

To confirm you need to compare your target and actual rotor sensor positions (measured in mm's) even out by 1mm or slow to respond means new pump.

Out of interest T, how do you measure the target and actual rotor sensor positions?

It is measured in millimeters, you need Fiat software to do this although I am not sure if some top end diag equipment could do this but the price will be hige compared to a hour at a dealership.
