Hi,quick question.Changing out water pump and just wondering what type? and how much? coolant should it take.I believe a 50/50 mix is ok but how many litres in total should it hold.It has a orange coloured coolant in it at the moment which I presume is the new long lasting stuff.

Whilst touching on the coolant mixture question, a couple of years back I did the coolant change on my daughters Punto. Official Fiat handbook instructed to use distilled water as opposed to ordinary tap water for that part of the mix. Got to say, that was the first time I had ever heard of using distilled water and thought it made alot of sense to use water than had been de-ironised.

I thought it was because tap water can contain many impurities - limescale can't be good for your system, although antifreeze tends to contain inhibitors.
I've seen systems where a leak has gone untreated - the system has just been constantly topped up with water - diluting the coolant to almost water.
When you come to drain the system it's almost liquid rust!

But I'd have thought the same would occour if topped up with only distilled or ironised water though.

I'm referring to those who cba to fix a leak & feel it'll be fine to simply top up with water every week/month etc.
These systems are closed and really only need the levels checking as an indication of some other problem.
Aside from the periodic renewal, I cannot remember the last time I even topped up my system.
