Hi guys, Advice needed on non-multijet JTD engines and production years. Looking to buy the latest lowest mileage doblo 1.9 JTD (non-multijet) that I can, both for its huge abilities, and its relative mechanical/electrical simplicity.

The engines as fitted to the circa 2002-2006 models, seem like the right choice because there’s less to go wrong. But I’m just a bit confused about model years and production runs. According to Parkers guide the JTD model was in production until 2010 - alongside the multijet models? In later years the mjet seems to have outsold the JTD, and therefore not many late JTDs are around. But what do you think is the latest model year JTD that retains the original ‘simplicity’?

And finally. I imagine that a JTD multijet can always be identified from the word ‘multijet’ on the engine cover. Is this always the case?

Hmmm, I was expecting some responses saying, "Nah a 1.9 Multijet is far better than a standard 1.9 JTD". For those who have experience of both engines which would you say is the best engine, and why?
 
I can't offer you specific technical advice re the question you've posted but what I can say are my opinions on my relatively few new Doblo owning running days.
My running motor is a 2005 1.9JTD with 108k on the clock. Initially it had non running issues earlier this year - hence me doing alot of trolling for info. Touch wood, it's sorted and running OK now and this is my thoughts since it's been mobile.

Initially at low revs my thoughts are how under powered and sluggish this motor is. Then the turbo kicks in approx. 2000 rpm and all is forgiven and it pulls OK. Being an 8 valve engine I can understand why it's low on the initial power front and do think to myself, that I wouldn't want the older non-turbo engine if this is the norm low power output with no turbo to make a difference.
Without ever owning or driving the multijet, my belief is that the 120 multijet engine is a 16 valve with turbo. Would have thought that would make quite a difference to the low end torque and power output. However, reading between lines, reckon you know the pitfulls with the newer engine, what with DPF etc. From what I've seen in other posts, there are a few tells of expensive repair grief when the demons do there worst on the multijet.
To give the full picture, I bought the Doblo Family as a replacement for my bigger Kia Sedona 2.9TDi. My motor is purely a runaround for me that acts as a mobile shed and a seven seater when required. The Kia pulled like a train, even giving extra pulling power going up hill. The obvious difference is the 2 tonne + Kia rates at 128hp compared to the Doblo 1.3 tonne rating at 105hp. My belief is that the extra 1000cc + 16 valve makes all the difference. The Doblo will never compare to the Sedona for space, because the Sedona is a truly 7 adult carrier with luggage space, whereas the Doblo is more like a 5 adult + 2 children in the 3rd row seat - lack of leg room creates the 5+2 without any luggage space opinion. Then the flip side of the coin, the Doblo offers a much higher mpg, alot lower insurance and road tax plus air con and far better ventilation for the 2nd and 3rd row passengers.
Apologies for this reply drifting into a Kia v. Doblo comparison, but thought I'd give you the full picture as I see it.
