my story

fiat doblo 1.9 120hp

I am a taxi driver

I now know that Fiat dealers are the biggest bandits going

allways get my car serviced at fiat but at about 6000 miles oil change needed comes on then dpf engine management light comes which is allways the dpf filter blocked (this costs me £120 to get unblocked and this is the third time this year its happened)

but ive caught them out this time

got my car serviced 3 months ago FULL Service at a cost of 189.99 so what I decided to do is do a oil and filter change every 2000 miles with fiat parts

today after doing 101 miles on my new oil and filter beep beep beep oil change needed and at 105 miles beep beep beep engine management light on

so in 6178 miles its had 4 yes 4 oil and filter changes

so how can the oil change message come on if its brand new oil?

and why does the dpf filter allway clog up even when I put a bottle of fiat dpf cleaner once a month I only do 500 miles a week

FIAT are ripping me off big time and I wont go back

ok if people don't want to help but

im just saying i really look after my car and its like clock work with the problems ive been having

so i tried something different with the oil and filter change and still the same

either fiat are ripping me off or the car cannot detect that the oil hasn't degraded

because after 100 miles of fresh oil i get oil needs changed

would you not suspect something was wrong if this was happening to you?

Are they resetting the oil message? Best find out how to do it yourself or just ignore it and change on mileage. As regards the DPF if you are just plodding round town then it will block up, be best to remove it and get a remap to compensate. We do a load of Passat tdi taxis at work and they are in every few weeks for a DPF regen.

my story

fiat doblo 1.9 120hp Turbo or non-turbo?

I am a taxi driver

I now know that Fiat dealers are the biggest bandits going Met a few bandit taxi drivers in my time, stones and glasshouses etc;)

allways get my car serviced at fiat but at about 6000 miles oil change needed comes on then dpf engine management light comes which is allways the dpf filter blocked (this costs me £120 to get unblocked and this is the third time this year its happened) If the DPF is repeatedly getting blocked then there is an underlying reason for it. £120 to unblock a DPF is laughable I will admit.

but ive caught them out this time

got my car serviced 3 months ago FULL Service at a cost of 189.99 so what I decided to do is do a oil and filter change every 2000 miles with fiat parts

today after doing 101 miles on my new oil and filter beep beep beep oil change needed and at 105 miles beep beep beep engine management light on When was the oil degradation last reset, ask the dealer in question.

so in 6178 miles its had 4 yes 4 oil and filter changes

so how can the oil change message come on if its brand new oil? Ask yourself how does the car know the oil is new.....it can't!

and why does the dpf filter allway clog up even when I put a bottle of fiat dpf cleaner once a month I only do 500 miles a week What cleaner is this?

FIAT are ripping me off big time and I wont go back

I think the issue you are having is with the oil degradation counter, it is this that tells the ECU to light up the oil change light and if you are to change the oil yourself it will need to be reset. The ECU works out (roughly) when oil is needing changed by the number of starts, distance, speed etc.

With reference to DPF, do you sit with engine running for long periods, I see many taxi drivers do this at airports, stations etc, there have been software updates for DPF also so worth asking your dealer....if you go back that is;)

thanks for the replys

i don't sit with the engine on i turn it off as soon as i stop

i have asked the dealers to put the latest firmware on and they said they have done but is there anyway i can check?

and for dpf removal i didn't want to go down this root at this point but if its costing me £480 a year just to do a regen i think that's my next step

if found a garage whos a fiat specialist

ive talk to the garage for a while today and they has asked me a few question about my dpf regen

i don't know how true this is but he reckon (fiat specialist) the dpf has to be taking off the car and from cold and should take 3 hours

when fiat have done my regen its always been away for 45min to a hour and told me it was clear

is this correct what the fiat specialist says ?

@T14086

the £120 is for 1 hours labour and diagnostic

fiat wanted to charge me £60 to reset the oil light hours labour lol

i was also told by the fiat specialist that if the oil had degenerated the car would not regen and the oil is full of diesel

based on all the info ive found out today

the ecu just guesses when the oil has degenerated instead of having a sensor

my car is booked in to the fiat specialist on Saturday and they are showing me what they are doing

ive got to leave my car over night so the dpf filter is cold

he has told me that this will not happen to my car again as long as i get my car serviced at his garage

and the service is costing me £120 full and £60 interim with all oil and service lights switched off

The dealer sounds as if they are carrying out a artificial regeneration whether the other garage are reverse flushing the DPF. IMO a car with 6000miles on it should need the DPF removed but at £480/year it is a viable option.

is it a good idea to get the dpf completely removed or just get the reverse flush

he is charging me £92 for this

he said remove flush replace

is this a far price?

@T14086

Actually the garage wanted to charge you not Fiat, quite sure no one at Fiat would pay £60 to get a light put out.

Correct

the ecu just guesses when the oil has degenerated instead of having a sensor

See my previous post.

my car is booked in to the fiat specialist on Saturday and they are showing me what they are doing

Can't argue with that, hope the DPF comes of easily though.

ive got to leave my car over night so the dpf filter is cold

Good business there;)

Out of interest how old is the car and is it under warranty of any kind?

sorry i have wrote it down wrong

the car is a 58 plate with 70988 miles on the clock

its got full dealer service history every 6000 miles

the problems started at 35k

by what you say fiat/garage have done the cheap way to correct the problem instead of the remove flush replace

that what i was saying in my first post its like clock work when the problems happen between 6000 to 6200 mile after service thats why i tried changing my oil myself to see if it helped

only time will tell if the fiat specialist if true to his word

if the fiat specialist fixes the problem then i know the dealer/garage have ripped my eye balls out and come back for the sockets

71000 miles lol that changes things somewhat.

Personally I have never never flushed the DPF, never had the need to but if I was I would use the Fiat method which uses a solution supplied by Fiat themselves although from memory it is rather expensive. Again my concern would be the removal of the DPF.

I wouldn't say it was the cheap way that the dealership used (£480 year) but it is the correct method however in some cases difficulties can occur and if they do then a dealership has the luxury of technical support and should be using it.

Obviously we only have one side of the story here (with all due respects) and it would be unwise and unprofessional to take sides but I very much doubt a dealership (or any garage to be honest, punters are not stupid) would be willingly ripping you off.

@T14086

how much should a dealer charge for unblocking a dpf filter? is £120 a fair price

and how this be prevented in the future?

as I said I don't really want to remove the dpf filter completely and get it remapped but if this is going to happing every 3 months I will have no other choice

71000 miles lol that changes things somewhat. so this means I need a new dpf filter every 35k because that's when the problem started?

Personally I have never never flushed the DPF, never had the need to but if I was I would use the Fiat method which uses a solution supplied by Fiat themselves although from memory it is rather expensive. Again my concern would be the removal of the DPF. do you mean concerns for removal flush and replace or removal all together? what solution do they use I buy a bottle of dpf cleaner every month from fiat costing £12.50 fiat recommend this and it gets put in during a service

I wouldn't say it was the cheap way that the dealership used (£480 year) but it is the correct method however in some cases difficulties can occur and if they do then a dealership has the luxury of technical support and should be using it. so the method there using ie drive up motorway for 40 mins to clear it is the best way?

Obviously we only have one side of the story here (with all due respects) and it would be unwise and unprofessional to take sides but I very much doubt a dealership (or any garage to be honest, punters are not stupid) would be willingly ripping you off yep you only have my side of the story but im no mechanic so when I service/oil indicator come up its straight into fiat

I took my car to the dealers today because I was getting worried about fiat specialist

I got charged £144 for forced regen and £67 diagnosics

he also asked if I had my timing belt done as it would be under heavy load is this true

my timing belt got done at 52k as I always get them done early

he asked me to sign saying I wouldn't get my timing belt changed before regen

are they trying to scare me ?

please am I being taking for a ride ?

update on doblo went into limp mode again dpf filter again

booked in to get it removed and a remap tomorrow

its cost me a fortune being off the road and the cost at the STEALERS
