HI EVERY ONE.
IS THE FOLLOWING A SAFETY ISSUE.
RECENTLY PURCHASED A FIAT DOBLO HI TOP ,ADAPTED FOR MY POWER CHAIR WITH LOWERED FLOOR & REAR SUSP LOWERING SYSTEM. IT CAME FROM BELGIUM WITH 39000Klms. IT WAS IMPORTED INTO SPAIN WHERE I LIVE.
UPON CHECKING THE VEHICLE OVER PRIOR TO TAKING IT FOR IT'S 40000 Klm SERVICE IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE REAR SPRINGS HAD CLAMPS MISSING. THIS VEHICLE IS FITTED WITH THE HEAVY DUTY TWO LEAF REAR SPRINGS. ORIGINALLY EACH SPRING HAD TWO CLAMPS COMPRISING OF TWO HORIZONTAL FLAT PLATES WHICH HELD THE LAMINATES TOGETHER & SECURED BY TWO M10 HEX BOLTS & LOCKNUTS.

IN THIS INSTANCE, EACH SPRING HAD ONE CLAMP MISSING. ON THE L H S THE CAMP IS MISSING FROM THE POSITION IN FRONT OF THE AXLE & THE REAR OF THE AXLE LEAVING ONE CLAMP SECURE. ON THE R H S SPRING, THE REAR CLAMP IS MISSING & THE FRONT CLAMP WAS HANGING ON WITH ONE M10 BOLT SHEARED & READY TO DROP OUT THESE BOLTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. WITH PLATED M10 BOLTS & STAINLESS LOCKNUTS ,BUT THEY MAY NOT BE TO SPEC.
I AM ALSO TAKING THIS MATTER UP WITH THE CONVERTERS AS I THINK THESE CLAMPS ARE IMPORTANT & MAY HAVE BEEN FITTED WITH DEFECTIVE BOLTS IN LIGHT OF THE BREAKAGE WHICH HAS COME TO LIGHT.
PERHAPS YOU CAN COMMENT & LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. MANY THANKS FOR LETTING ME TAKE UP YOUR TIME.

This is, as you say, a matter for the converters as the original structure of the vehicle has been altered. The springs are normally upgraded (but not always) with stronger ones and this has caused some confusion with the annual vehicle MOT test here in the UK.

Let us know what happens(y)

i upgraded the rear leafs on mine with a kit from greyston engineering, uk.

cost £160 but DIY fitting, they are regular springs made to just slide in (when dobby is jacked high) between the leaf and the bump stops. Had them in two years..it would take a ton of weight to stress the rear now, the shockers last twice as long and never need to worry about worn bump stops. Handing is also sharper.

however get their weakest strength if you dont carry heavy loads all the time. I got mediums and even these raise the rear height too much with camper load.. I put in spring assistors in the front so that is raised also. like a 4 by 4 now.. great for pot holes.

As promised, a update! Still awaiting a reply from the belgium converters. The dobbie is the long w/base & has the original 2 leaf springs. The vehicle is fitted with a body lowering system which in operation, act against the spings to max compression. No prob for loading/un loading , say 10 mins, but prolonged operation, servicing or hold ups, mean the bolts, i suspect, puts them in max tension. Until i hear to the contary i have fitted h t bolts & lock nuts.
