Ok, I'm confused

The missus has been looking at Caravans (I know ) Anyway, the caravan she likes has a Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass (MTPLM) of 1300kg. Our Dobbie has a Maximum Permissible Towing Mass (MPTM) of 1300kg.

Will this be OK, or will I struggle; I don't want to be left 'high and dry' nor 'have my collar felt' by the ol' Bill as a result of an issue...

Any advice greatly received (y)

Don't do it or I may have to kill you  . caravans should only be allowed on public roads between the hours of 11pm and 4am. The rest of the time they should be used for target practice by the RAF

Believe me, I NEVER thought I would EVER be towing a Caravan!

caravans should only be allowed on public roads between the hours of 11pm and 4am

Agreed!

The rest of the time they should be used for target practice by the RAF

Harsh, but again...

Thanks scout500, but someone with 'actual advice' would be greatly welcomed :bang::rolleyes:

I don't want the extra hassle or expense of having to sell the Dobbie, to buy something heavier

The towing weight is (I think) all about the weights of the relative vehicles. Whether you would struggle towing it is down to the engine you have (and the brakes).

It's well within 'legal limits' weight-wise; is the 60kg maximum tow ball (nose) weight which concerns me with stability...

Why? Maximum ball weight has very little to do with stability, and is about what most are. If caravan is correctly laden this won't cause an issue.

I got this info from the towcar.info website...

I tow an Avondale Mayfly caravan (1100kg) with a Doblo 1.9 dynamic 56 plate.
No problems, good fuel mpg.
As for target practice, you must be sad, they are the most enjoyable holidays we have.

Holy thread resurrection Batman

Never mind I'm sure there are pills that you can take which will help. Although amputation of the Avondale would be a more permanent solution.

No problems, for who? You? because I'm sure the people that follow you won't say the same thing. As for fuel economy, compared to what? Not driving the Doblo without a big box on the back thats for sure.

No I am very happy as I don't have to go on holiday in a caravan and I would be very happy to see the RAF destroy all the caravans in existence.

You need to get out more (and not in a caravan)

I use my doblo for towing every now and again, it also has 1300kg towing capacity,

I believe it should be higher, the newer doblos have much larger brakes and the engines produce much more torque than the older 1.9's, mine is the 1.6 multijet, if you have the 2.0 it has a 1500kg towing capacity,

you must make sure whatever you are towing does not exceed the towing capacity of your doblo, if your stopped by vosa and weighed if they catch you overweight it would be a fine and I have heard they prohibit you continuing your journey if overweight,

mine pulls a trailer with ease, pulling out onto a duel carriageway, up steep hills etc it pulls like a train

the doblo also only has a gross train weight of 3500kg which mean you dont need a b+e license to tow a trailer with it
