Hi Lads & Lasses(?),

for some while now I have been having trouble with my Doblo.
Its a 1.9D (non-turbo) type 223.

The EML started to come on a few months ago but would always go out and there was no loss of power. This developed into the motor cutting out when the EML came on.
It has now "hardened" into a semi permanent fault, as follows.
EML on = runs like a choke is on and no response to the throttle, although the revs move up and down a couple of hundred.:(

I read about "resetting" the ECU... that possible? Anyway, if I disconnect the battery (+ & -) overnight, the motor starts but with the EML on. Turn it off and restart and all is sweetness and light and the EML is off with a steady tickover.

Turn it off and restart - back ti EML on and "choked" running with oscillating RPM.

Turn it off and restart - sweetness and light. Repeat Ad nauseam for the rest of the day. When the EML is off, the van drives normally for any length of time... until you turn it off.

The next day, its almost impossible to get the EML off without starting it with about one-third throttle and holding that until the EML goes out... takes a few times though.

I'm thinking electrics, but where to look. I'm waiting for an ELM327 interface to arrive for the laptop as none of the code readers I have tried show any errors.

HELP!

Cheers,
John

Loosing the will to live... How loose is your will...?

Could it make you lose the will in the end? :p:p:D

Seriously though - Have you thought about it being the egr valve?

Borrocks! I read your reply to someone else and thought Ha! wont do that!!:D

Yes. EGR is blanked off
Also bypassed the filter with clear hose and non-return valves to check for air - none.
Removed tank unit and cleaned - no muck.

Damn - Hopefully someone else can help you out, seems like you've covered most of the bases.

Me too. Every time you go near a garage here, they rape your wallet (n)

I did hear that the Delphi Epic pumps were she-ite but why would it run perfectly at times:shrug:

May try a new throttle pedal next unless some peeps know better.

The Delphi Epic diesel pump is legendery. I've been down this road and if you read my posts you'll see the progress. Expensive, yes. It does sound like your pump, but you need to get an independant expert to sort it out. Spares were difficult to get about a year ago but are now readily available.

Disagree about independent, a good dealership will have the rotor position in pump checked and proven to be faulty within the hour along with the usual basic checks. If pump is faulty be careful if you get it repaired as most places cannot repair correctly and fault will still be there, there is also alot of recon pumps repaired to same poor standard.

could it be the revolutions sensor

Think not. New unit fitted and no sign that the bit on the crank is loose.
Today I played with various bits...
The glow plug light started flashing a while ago, since the EML issues. The GP light goes out after warm-up time, but then starts flashing for about 1 min. All the plugs have correct resistance.
Removed the connection from the relay to check each one as the one under the pump is such a pig  Same results with flashing GP light. Disconnected the relay from the ECU. Still the same flashing GP light.... Sooooo ECU or relay:shrug:... or none of the above...

You really need to have the rotor position sensors checked.

Is that the 2 units screwed to the top of the injector pump?

I had the ECU checked out by Autotek and no fault found and no codes stored in it

I wouldn't rule out the dodgy earth strap issue that Doblos suffer from, Some people have reported having the EML showing when that has failed as well as multiple other gremlins.

New (read old), pump fitted and the EML light has returned to normal behaviour, i.e.. OFF (y)

But, this "new" pump sounds like a blacksmiths anvil band and not much in the way of power... I know they don't have much to start with :D
I paid very little for the pump but it came from a "runner".

Anyone know of a reasonably priced pump overhauler? I talked to a guy at AP Diesels Ltd... £660 inc VAT:eek:
