mmmm been through entire web and this forum and nobody has asked the quantity or type of oil to go in the 1.9 JTD gearbox, Are you calling the dealers for this info ?

Change is a bit notchy, most so when cold weather. But had a good quality flywheel and clutch change two years ago. So I greased the linkages which helped a fair bit. Then checked the oil, nice and clear and full to the brim, but what leaked out seemed pretty thick. Done 108,000 miles so time to try a change for the scottish weather.

Anyway I remember something about 1.8 litres of EP75W-90 Semi synthetic, but tell me if I am wrong, the alfa 1.9 JTD takes 2.2. literrs...

or more importantly what are your sources of information ?

OK, update. the topup amount is not 1.98 liters for 1.9JTD.

I Changed the oil, but only 1.6 liters (approx) came out. Left it to drain for 1-2 hours while engine was warm from a 2 hour run. It was really green coloured. Not dirty, and looked golden if you looked at a drop, but the entire 1.6 liters was green.

Doblo had done 108,000 miles.

Put in carplan fully synthetic Gl5 spec. It started coming out of the gearbox top up hole at about 1.6 liters on.

I guess the 1.98 liter guideline is saying buy a couple of liter bottles and keep pouring in till its full. Driving felt just the same. But my problems were in the morning when cold it was sticky changes, so will post back result when I do a cold start.

Just to say - LOVE your conversion!

As I've spent so much money on the Multi I've been wondering (not that I have the technical knowledge!) how I could make some sort of conversion out of it - have to get my money's worth!! Thought the boot door could be the middle roof of a tent that expanded out three ways (our 'extension'!), curtains on the windows - this car's got to do me some good service 'cos I've been giving some to it!!

How do you manage with electrical items/cooking/washing-up?

I think your conversion is fantastic!!

You can buy car tents on ebay which help you out with that approach.. As far as electricity and water is concerned make a lot of prep in the design so if a water part fails it does not leak into anything electrical. I just used a simple hand pump tap on the sink.

As an update to the thread, the oil change did the job. So if the gearbox is sticky till engine warms up that might be your problem.

Dear Crinklebender,

Thank you SO MUCH for your very kind reply and the information - I think your conversion is wonderful! Too much for me to take on with our Multi without much training, but a fantastic idea!

I'm going to look up car tents - if I can get the latest repair saga resolved (and I really hope I can and without it costing another fortune - I'm told today to think of scrapping the Multi, but how can I when I've paid out so much in repairs already?!!) my sons and I can possibly take the little trip we're wanting to and try camping also but with the more solid feel of the Multi attached!

Thank you, again, for your kind message and the information and pictures - what a fantastic project!

Very best wishes,
