I'm having some real issues with the headlight stalk; the high beam flash (pulling the stalk towards you), doesn't work. The indicators don't self-cancel when turning right, when turning left the indicator cancels as soon as you turn the wheel. When turned on, the side-lights come on fine, but there is a real issue when going to dipped beam - I have to waggle the stalk to get the dipped beam to come on, then when operating the indicators I can sometimes lose the dipped beam...

Is it just a case of replacing the stalk or something more sinister?

Any advice etc. greatly received!

Hi,
I've never had this problem, although many others have.

There is a thread on it here somewhere, so I'd recommend hunting it out.

I seem to remember something about peeling back the rubber sleeves at the base of the stalks just a tad and squirting a dash of silicone in. Please check first.

As for the lights self-cancelling oddly, well this might just be the usual Fiat indicator problem. They don't always lock on when you use them, in fact I've often gone round roundabouts, or turned generally, without indicating properly because I can't hold the stalk against the spring and turn the wheel at the same time: very infuriating!

New Fiats have finally got proper mechanisms, or at least the Panda and new Doblo have.

Just hunt out the thread on this section (y)

I used a proprietry contact cleaner from Maplins.

WD40 does have cleansing properties (great as emergency hand cleaner etc), but it also leaves a protective coating to act as a water dispersant.
silicone is a lubricant.
Both will have worked to a degree as the thin jet expelled will have, maybe, shifted some deposits.

Contact cleaner is designed specifically to strip deposits left on contacts from arcing due to switching current.

Sorted! A £3.99 tin of contact cleaner from Halfords and I've got all my lights working as the should - Absolutely delighted!
