Hello, I have a 2002 1.9jtd cargo and when press the clutch it makes quite a loud whirring noise but sometimes when I let the clutch out the whirring stays for a while then diminishes. Does anybody have any idea what it is?
Without hearing it, suggest its the clutch release bearing it will take a second or two to spin down after having engaged with the pressure plate. Brace yourself it probably needs a new clutch. How long since the last clutch?
Was he a boy racer spinning wheels type arse? cos that doesnt help clutches
Clutches are a few hundred, add in mechanics time, vat, cakes youre looking at a lot of money and of course theres the great new innovation of dual mass flywheels which might also need replacing BUT take it to a dealer get their opinion first cos it might not be that.
Yes unfortunatly dmf's don't last and theres no point fitting a new clutch to find the dmf fails shortly after. To my mind thats a good quote be clear about whether thats inc or ex vat and labour though. I paid 1200 inc vat for the same work on my Saab.
If you go to eurocar parts website it will have the prices for the parts as a guide.
yes you should change the dmf at the same time as the clutch. Solid conversion kits ar available for some vehicles, opinion is divided over whether they're a good idea or not.
