hi just like so advice before i take it to the garage and get ripped off

ive got a 58 plate 1.9 high roof and the problem is when i turn the wheel either left or right there is a knocking sound

anyone with any ideas?

thank you

on my old pug it was Drive shaft

there is no knocking while drive only when at low speed while turning or stationary

could it be anything other than drive shaft ?

as i say no noise and any speed after 3mph

Cv joints are noisy at any speed. My pug has been through enough for me to be certain of that!

I don't doubt what you say about your Pug - but not all worn CV joints are audible at speed though. I had this on an Alhambra - you could only hear the CV knocking at low speed. It was quiet at speed and yet it was completely wrecked! If it is clicking/knocking while turning the wheel whilst stationary it may well be a coil spring or I've even had this caused on an old Astra by a worn steering rack!:)

Hi,
To check cv joint, drive in tight circles, (full lock), in both directions, nice and slow. CV joints are usually very evident on this test.
One thing not mentioned here is the suspension top bush assembly, this is a bearing in bonded rubber, allowing the suspension strut/damper and coil spring assembly to turn with the wheel. Check at very slow speed, (first gear slow as possible), turning from lock to lock. With the windows open you may hear which side. A CV joint is usually a constant noise, the suspension bush is more intermitant...
Also don't forget ball joints. Jack up front wheel, and with hands on wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock, check for play.
Track rod ends, check these with hands at 3 and 9 o'clock and play in that direction.
Don't know if any of that helps, but hope so....good luck....
