Now van wont start, turns over and battery flashes but thats it.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

What engine?
Did you disconnect the battery when you worked on the car?
When you put it all back together, maybe you missed an earth wire?
Any warning lights, do you hear the fuel pump priming?

You should hear the fuel pump hum when you turn the key to MAR.
Turn the key to MAR and see if you can hear the fuel pump, if you don't then check the fuse and relay for the pump.

Don't know if this is of any help if you sent the car to a garage but:

F21 is the fuse, it needs to be a 15A fuse.
T10 is the relay, it's a 20A relay. it's next to the F21fuse in the engine bay fuse box

Edit: fuel cut off switch AKA inertia switch, is under the passenger seat in RH drive cars,(drivers seat for LH). move the seat all the way back and you will see it next to the sear rail. It's a black rubber thing, it it's tripped, then the rubber will be deformed in the middle, just press it down to reset it.
if you where banging on the car with something it might have been tripped.

The noisey engine will have to wait until I find another garage!

Well I don't know if the cut off switch is in all new cars, All fiat cars have them and they are a really good idea.
Anyway, you can sill check the fuse and use a different relay to try to start the car, if the fuse is fine then take T2(High beams) and put it in place of T10.

I remember reading this: about how to reset the inertia switch on a 2012 punto, don't know if that's needed on all fiat cars or nor, might want to try it!

Cheers and thanks for the imaginary pint,
