Right heres the new story....

thought my instrument cluster was in need a good clean and decided to take the actual unit out to give the plastic a bit of a polish.

anyways everything went well, took the plastic of and the unit itself never moved nor changed.

i came to put the unit back in and upon turning the ignition on i immediately realized that something was a miss.

now in the picture below it shows what lights i am now not getting.

i have had the entire dash out and checked wires, fuses, you name it, Ive even went as far as to have the unit fully checked @ 25quid and everything was OK! IS OK!!!!!

so i then tried it in again and all the same.

nothing is ever interrupted and everything works flawlessly. i also found this out when a friend called me to say my rear fogs were on, obviously i am not getting no notification they are!!!

so i then decided to have a go at sending the unit of for a full LED and needle change. @ 50 inc center console switch! :slayer:

Still no avail.

No error codes no faults no nothing.

All i did originally was take the unit out and plug the bugger back in.

:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

(n)(n)(n)(n)

WHAT AN EARTH IS GOING ON??????

i do not get the battery light, i do not get the light bulb icon on nor the oil light.

i do not get my heated rear window light come on, i do not get the two light icons light up when lights on nor do i get the rear fog lights.

seems strange how they are on top on one another though, like in wire banks.

thing is i sent it in the other day for a glow plug change, who here might doubt that the battery was not disconnected? i think the faults are from then to be honest as i never picked the van up, maybe i have come to conclusion it was me and did not notice before, i took clocks out literately the day after...

could this be a cause?

no battery and oil light really concern me the most. it defiantly is not the led's as they have been changed.

anybody here know where the battery warning is coming from? the signal? of the oil light one? i can only trace them to center console switch and down to fuse area.

:bang:

Must admit I'm having a bit of a job understanding the hstory here, but glow plugs are nothing to do with the oil light so I would elimanate glow plug speculation. You mention the led's have been changed. Might be easiest to concentrate just on the oil light get a volt meter on it and trace back through pcb, difficult i know. As it affects more than one light do they share an -ve earth connection in common?
Thats all I can think of.

no i was just thinking maybe the lights we of before i even took the unit out as i never turned ignition on to check state to determine a difference between before and after.

maybe there was a problem after they did glow plug change as manifold had to come of. big job i was told. are the connectors for the signals for either oil or battery located in that area, i think not myself but you never know, it could be just as simple as plugging the bugger back in.

i am not so clear all the time, apologies. rushing trying to find a answer does not help, maybe 3rd day fresh approach might help.

all the earths are good and unit has been fully checked before led were changed. as you can see in the video the ones that did not work prior still do not work after, all resistors everything checks out on the unit iself so its got to be in the van somewhere,

this is where i mention the glow plug change query, if battery has not been connected any connection even slightly touch's body or engine could cause fault but all fuses etc are fine.

Really confused. :bang:

really appreciate your input! :worship:

i noticed the problems after placing unit back in after cleaning. but maybe they were there before?

Just incase anybody is wondering what the new clock looks like in white here it is. and the center console switch. (y)

Well is it? who knows this is a puzzler.

everything is working flawlessly apart from the said icon lights that do not illuminate.

:bang:

there is video on you tube and i start it up at 40-50seconds. :slayer:

you should have at the cluster connector, a battery live, a ignition live and a earth. 2 CAN wires and possibly an illumination wire.

Have you had the car at a dealership who can activate the cluster through the examiner diagnostic equipment?

i would definatly say there are more than 5 wires in the rear, maybe some have seperate earths though, its like two connectors in a casing at rear, ive tried to get a picture but its just too dark and flash from camera sending it blur.

please could you explain what you mean further?

how much would this cost? do you think it would be cheaper to trial fit an alternative speedo @ 30gbp?? then if it was to do the same the problem could be further.

as stated though ive had this checked then upgraded leds etc. so i am just at a loss.:bang:

well heres the lead and connector.

defiantly a lot more wires than first thought.

don't know what to suggest.

All tip top.

New speedo on the way, let me see if this one will do the same.

if it does give exactly the same faults then its further into the vehicle, if not then its just the speedo which i might just have wasted 75 smackers on!!!! GOD DAMN IT! :bang:

Well, new cluster has arrived and let me tell you that all i can say is the guy who checked this unit for £25 will certainly be getting a call shortly after writing this. :bang:

Everything is OK now. but my head is not. :slayer:

thank all you kind people for your support and help! :bang:

Free stickers if you want some? i can make anything.

as we can see all the lights are now working! Great, thought id have a go at doing LEDs myself and it rocks!!! :slayer:

i fitted the LED's myself, no more big money on this unit. very very easy.

i am going to start doing it for £25 :slayer:
