I have been having problems with my ABS and EBD lights coming on. My engine management then came on and Doblo 1.3 went into limp mode. The plugged into the computer and found that the DPF needed changing - they did this and gave the car back. The engine failure light came on again and started making a whooshing sound as I accellerated. They changed the exhaust flexi joint, but said that they engine management light was now staying on, despite the fact that they had plugged into in and not found anything wrong now. Has anyone got any ideas what to do next? I imagine I may need a trip to FIAT to reset computer, but am worried they may charge the earth?

Thanks

It's about half hours labour to reset the light. Something like £50 or so. They may find a fault as their software is fiat specific.

Unfortunately they haven't found the fault yet. So far I've had my dpf replaced (by an independent garage - as above), had it regenerated by Fiat which worked for a few days before the warning light went on again and it went into limp mode. It's at Fiat at the moment - new dpf has been cleaned, filter changed and ECG replaced at a cost of £1000 (+ £500 paid for the DPF change) so far but it still doesn't work. I am struggling to understand why the fault can't be found - it's a 2006 doblo which is hardly a rarity. I'm not a mechanic, and do not have the time to learn all about my engine and fix it myself. I'm now struggling with whether (provided they manage to fix it and I get it back which I'm not even sure they will be able to) to cut my losses and sell it when it is fixed, or trust that all this work will mean it lasts for a good few years now. From other threads it seems it might happen relatively soon...

I understand NOW that I have to take it out and give it a good run once a month (or should it be week??) but was never told this when I bought it. If it wasn't such a useful car/van I wouldn't think twice. Has anyone had a similar problem? Most threads seem to have had this sorted out pretty quickly. Mine went into limp mode at the beginning of January and hasn't worked properly since.

is your dobbie running ok with the light on ? i had a similar problem with my old 57 plate 1.3.It turned out to be the crank angle sensor, it would go into limp mode when accelerating. The other problem was a corroded earth strap which gave similar problems and showed no faults. suggest a fiat dealer plug it in as they have the codes. Also i would recommend a cam chain and tensioner renewle if its approching 100,000 mile they have a habit of going, causing a very expensive top-end rebuild (£700 plus ) hope this is of some help

No it goes into limp mode when the light goes on, and yes I definately noticed it came on once when I was accelerating. Kind of pushed it and it seemed to give up and the light went on. I had a call from the garage yesterday - it seems to be working now and I can pick it up today but I'm not holding out much hope of it carrying on working! Apparently a cracked pipe was stopping it from regerating which they replaced for a cost of £7. Can't help but wonder whether they could have replaced this before the dpf, filter and ECG...

The earth lead was corroded when I first got it causing it to not start but I had it replaced. I presume Fiat would be able to tell if the crank angle sensor needed replacing? Cam chain renewal sounds like an idea if they go at 100,000 but not money left to do anything other than drive at the moment! Thanks for replying - does anyone offer doblo engineering courses, I could do with one....
