Hi got a 2004 doblo 1.9 jtd fitted new aux belt and new belt tensioner as it was slipping and throwing of belts.

But with new parts fitted it still slips/squeals can't see anything obvious had my mechanic look at it but he can't pin point problem either belt seems fine tried belt spray works for 10 mins then it's back.

Just wondered if any one else has or had same problem as don't no were to start.

There is a small oil leak at the front but no oil on the belt.

Any help appriciated

Hi mate,usual cause is the freewheel clutch pulley on the alternator has seized,this can shred belts and throw them and causes a noise usually more at idle. Alternator is a bit of a job to change, so I usually get it checked over while off, last thing you want to do is fit new pulley and next month have to take it off again as brushs/slip rings worn and not charging. Bottom crank pulleys can break up and cause noise and belt problems,check alt pulley first. Hope this helps,John.

had similiar problems with this crap construction of alternator and belts... (n)

first squeaking belt and some mysterious clattering
-> changed aux belt, guide pulley and belt tensioner
-> no effect :(
-> changed again with parts form other manufacter
-> squeaking solved :) but still clattering :(

4 monts later...
-> second garage changed freewhell pulley of the alternator
-> cluttering solved :)

6 months later alternator working bad (flickering lights, minimal charge)
-> new alternator !

guess the faulty freewhell did some damage to the alternator and finally the alternator died (or parts of its)

for changing the alternator you got to unclamp the right driveshaft and a bit the exhaust system

Hi guys

Sorry to bring this post back up, i've got a 08 doblo 1.9 multijet diesel, i've been having no end of probs with the alternator belt system, i have heard these are problems, just had a new tensioner and idler fitted and its thrown the belt off again, almost ending up in the timing belt system like before, i was told that with the new idler and tensioner (from fiat - took ages to get here) that the belt ran right on the inner edge of the idler, is that where they are supposed to run?

i haven't had the alternator changed as yet - doesn't seem to free wheel very well

Dave
