Hi all
I have just bought a Doblo 1910 JTD SX van last week (no service history)& as title suggests I have a problem with power on acceleration .
I found it really sluggish & had to keep dropping gears (Back down to 1st), as it just kept losing speed going uphill (n).
I had it serviced which consisted of: Oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter & water/antifreeze changed, tyre pressures checked, moving parts on side & rear doors greased & brakes checked.
I mentioned the power problem to the mechanic & he said the service might be all it needs but it could also be (I think it was) air flow mass sensor sticking, so he took that off or to bits & cleaned it.
Upon collecting van was told that it took 20 mins of constant flushing the water with hose pipe to get it clean & the new engine oil went Black straight away, & the air filter was absolutely filthy & by the looks of it hasn't had a service for a very long time.
So reccomends taking it back after the winter & getting a rad flush & the engine flushed.
Anyway definate improvement after the service but power problem still there.
When I pull away in 1st it is very slow to take off & have to keep it in 1st gear longer than you usually would, until you feel a sudden burst of power & only then go through the gears as normal.
Does anyone know what the cause could be??
He has told me to place it on a diagnostic machine, but I seem to read /hear storys everywhere about people doing this & it coming up with something, which is bought/supplied & fitted, only to find it makes no difference then diagnostic again & something else which doesn't work, so dont want to eally do that yet, & thought maybe the experts on here might have a better idea, before going down the diagnostic machine route.

All replies are very much appreaciated.

Regards
Daz

To me sound like the egr valve needs a good clean or replacing...also did the mechanic wash the maf sensor with water? Or have it just miss read it?
Do you have a lot of black smoke under acceleration?

your mechanic seems to know his stuff would follow his recomendations

get codes read might well be sensor playing up

sounds like egr valve. Can be cleaned or replaced. Worth mentioning to your mechanic.

Hi guys

Thankyou for your replys.

No I dont think he meant that he washed it in water when he said he had cleaned it.
And there is no black smoke when accelerating.

But thanks to those who have taken the time to reply to me, it very much appreaciated (y)

I will mention the egr valve.
I'm quite handy with home improvements, renovations, repairs ect but not very clued up on the mechanics of a car (or van)

If I decided to attempt this myself, is it very straight forward to do?
Thought I would have a go & if no joy after that, then get him to stick it on the diagnostic machine.
