Hi

i've just been offered a 2007 Doblo for quite a good price. It's got 1 owner from new, reasonable mileage & is ment to be in very good condition.

Well, apart from i've been told it's jumping out of 4th gear. I do a lot of work on cars but never really done anything like gearbox or engine rebuilds so not sure if I should buy it & give it a go

Anybody got any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Craig

stay away. Gearboxes are pricy to sort on any car

even if i only pay £1k for the van? because that's what i've been offered it at

Get a worst case scenario quote from a mechanic, see whether it's worthwhile. Don't forget how inconvenient it'll be not having the van you paid for while it's being fixed! Check the value against the total cost to see if you should bother.

Hi.
Could be a couple of things. take it for a run does it stay in gear holding the lever? Is the box noisy?
If its quiet and it stays in gear holding the lever, it may be just linkage wear or a detent spring. other than that its a stripdown, if you are competent gearboxes are not that difficult to do.

I would say even in the worst case, if it needs the box stripping and re-building, from experience it should cost less than a grand, out, re-build, new clutch (silly not too while its out), back in and off you go.

If its a good car on an 07 I would say a 2k all in price is very good. You would struggle to get anything that new for that price I would say.

Can't remember the exact cost but we had a recon box on our old Multipla and I think we paid about £700ish maybe a little more. Cash.

well it's got 1 owner from new, fsh, full mot, 6 months tax & 90k on it & mint apart from gbox issue

Even if it costs me £1k for gearbox rebuild & new clutch i've still got a good deal as cheapest i've found so far was a 2007 1.3 with 100 on it with not as much tax & mot & that was up for £3k

I bought an alfa 147 1.6ts for the mrs a while ago with gbox probs, cost £550 for rebuild inc new genuine alfa clutch. It was done by a gearbox specialist near where I live.

I was originally looking to spend about £4k until this van came up through a trader i know. I haven't even seen it yet but he's said it's mint, which knowing him it will be as he's a picky bugger! I'm only getting it for £1k as he knows i'm desperate top get a van for work. Said if he was selling it to anybody oher than a mate in need he'd be selling it for quite a bit more as he would've got the gbox fixed

had a bit of an update today about the gearbox issue. It goes into 4th ok but pops back out. Been told it stays in ok if you keep your hand on the gear stick & hold it in place.

I had this with a V40 I had a few years ago. Was just a bolt in the linkage that had come loose. I'm not saying it is anything as simple as tha twith the doblo though. Although it'd be a nice easy fix if it was!

hopefully getting it next week sometime

right, after buying the van i've found that it will stay in 4th with hand on gearstick until you put it under any kind of load then it jumps out of gear.

I've used it for 2 weeks now & have just been skipping 4th & just using 3rd more. I've managed to get a little bit of cash together from work over the last 2 weeks so it's gone in today for the gearbox sorting. While it's in they're repaling the clutch & d/m flywheel as well. Don't think i'll have mch change from £1k after all that!

Still, considering what i paid for it in the 1st place it isn't so bad. £2k wouldn't have got me anything this new that was in good condition that i'd actually like.

It's also not been any hassle being without it for a couple of days as i still have my vectra estate. I haven't advertised it yet as i was keeping hold of it to use while van gearbox was being sorted.

picked the van today from cleckheaton gearboxes! Unfortunately picked up as bill of £760 inc vat!

well at least i now have 4th gear as well as a new clutch & flywheel! (y)

yep! would've been cheaper if i'd removed the gearbox myself & taken it to them!
