Hi everyone

We've had our 57 reg Doblo 1.3 diesel for about 6 months now and it's been fine until last night. I was driving at around 55 mph in 4th gear then felt a slight jolt and a big drop in power. It wouldn't rev past 3000, even in 2nd and 3rd and struggled to to 40mph. The engine management light came on then as well.

Strangely it improved by the time I got home, but the engine management light didn't go out. I drove it again this morning to test it and its running fine, but the light is still on.

I've done a quick google search and some people say its the turbo, while others say the injectors (hope it isn't - our Fiat Scudo was plagued with faults with the common rail, costing about £1400 in total over 2 years)

Any ideas what it could be, and what to do about it?

Thanks,
Mark

I´d recommend taking it somewhere to get the engine fault codes read for a start. When my 1.3 diesel Doblo did what yours has done it was one of the sensors associated with the fuel/air measurement (I can´t remember the details, sorry). Simple fix and the bit was about 20 quid - much better than a new turbo! The fault codes gave the garage (local one I´ve used for years) a pretty good clue where to look.

Hope this helps,

Phil

Thanks everyone

The van is booked in at our local garage on Saturday to have the fault codes read. The mechanic said that the drop in power when it reaches a certain point is the van going into limp-home mode.

I hope its nothing expensive becasue the van was only £2700 to buy!

Cheers

Hi everyone new to the forum can anyone point me in the direction i need to be .Problem is ive got a 1.3 jtd doblo it had a missfire changed the faulty injector but it made no difference gonna get fault codes read when the festive season ends does the injector need programing into the system and one final thing anyone know a good indepedant fiat garage in or near wakefield west yorks thanks for any advice in advance

Re: engine missfire please help

Hi Alan,

ok so you changed the 'faulty' injector (how did you know it was faulty) and it made no difference, that suggests the injector wasn't faulty.
Injectors do not need programming into the system.

Hope this helps

Re: engine missfire please help

got told the injector was faulty when i bought it when i unplugged the injector i got the engine management light on any pointers on what it could be would having codes read point me in right direction
Cheers again Alan

thanks T14086 was thinking this my self had someone out with bosch diagnostics and he said that the injector was dead at +15 but it worked in the next cylinder ok by the way i swapped injector 2&3 think the compression is ik as i forgot to tighten the injector in and it blew diesel past the injector was thinking ecu anyway of checking this sorry for the long reply
Cheers Alan

no it had a supply to the injector got it booked in at a garage tommorrow to let them have a poke about and see if they can find anything

hi mark,
i have a 05 doblo 1.3 diesel the exact same thing happened to mine last saturday going handsome got to a juction went to pull away it shuddered like it was in the wrong gear then no power have tried it again today wouldn't even throttle up for a while then belched smoke while doing so but ticks over sweet as a nut i have checked my turbo and it turns freely before parting with any readies its worth taking the pipe off to check,
i will be ringing my bro' later(a exmechanic) to see if he has any ideas if he has i will let you know. how many miles has it done? and have you had the egr valve checked? that can cause this fault if it is sticking.
best wishes
nigel

hi peoples me again,
where can i find this goodly dpf or is it the diesel filter strapped to the bulkhead many thanks nigel.

hi mark sorry for the delay in getting back to you had a word with my bro' he suugested egr vale or mass air flow meter, air fl,ow meter arrived to day fitted it didn't make no difference so i thrashed the crap out of it for nearly an hour kept red lining it and keep hitting the throttle and letting foot off in rapid succesion to move the egr, i can now hear the turbo spinning again and a slight whistle when i exellerate where the egr is sticking but it now goes a lot better than it has done for quite a while engine management light is still on but hey ho it will hopefully go off when it has righted it self i'm not saying it will work on yours but it,s worth thinking about and cheaper than a garage. best wishes nigel
