Oh yes. Silly us for using independent as a noun for those that aren't affiliated with a particular brand. ;)

Boppin, did the garage just reset the ecu or did they reprogram it to take into account the missing dpf? If just reset then that'll be why you'll be heading back at some point.

what they are saying is once you have the innards knocked out of dpf then a tuner/specialist then deletes all dpf software from ecu thus telling ecu it no longer has dpf if this has not been done and just ecu reset u will get problems whoever thought of dpf s should be flogged seriously they choke the life out of diesels and are a money making racket for main dealers they are unreliable and can seriously damage engine ive had mine done bout a year now passed test with a 1.9 reading bought k&n filter running at bout 106 hp try it it will put a smile on your face as for the air we breathe industries are pumping billions of tons of harmful waste into the atmosphere every year how did we ever manage without dpfs before! which is proven to be worst diesel or petrol for the enviroment they told us years ago drive diesels there better for the enviroment cleaner than petrol they dont know there arse from there elbow

No you read post wrong, first read post #16 then you will understand that according to that post we should be calling independent garages dealers. Nothing to do with who can/can't carry our a regen;)
i did not mention dealers just independants you must have mis read the post.:)

I think you lot clearly have too much time on your hands. I didn't say that anyone had to call anything anything, I was challenging the way I was pulled up about my use of the term dealers.

Grow the **** up.

The ECU now thinks there is no DPF.

Regarding the ethics, I had a car which was breaking down every few miles, now it's not. Luckily it was still under the 6 months warranty I was given when I bought it. I can't afford to have a car that's in the garage more than it's on the road so the ethics of the tiny bit of difference it makes to the emissions is bottom of my list.

I agree in these times reliability and economy are number 1 in car ownership. With all the extras on diesel engines to get emmisions down the designers are killing a perfectly useable type of engine.

its not just dpfs that do this egr systems tend to coke up engines
with egr valves needing cleaning or replacing

So another possible mod i have used but only the 85 percent one is the egr blank

had experience of them and found a company that manufactures them

http://www.txautosport.co.uk/vauxhall-19-cdti-egr-blanking-plate-296-p.asp

ignore the vauxhall bit its same engine

if you still have contact with the guy that removed dpf in the software this should also be posible

I think that's a bit uncalled for. There's no need to resort to swearing (or blanked out swearing) to get your point across.

The simple fact is that there was a misunderstanding, which is common on here because of the nature of the written communication. Then there were a few posts that teased a little. So what? Don't waste energy getting worked up about it, you wrote something that people found funny and they let you know about it. Laugh too if you can.

Also, it's not about having loads of time. The contributors to the forum do so to help others and for no financial reward, most are at least as busy as you are.

I didn't blank the swearing out. And what you see as teasing might not feel like that to a newcomer, had you considered that? I can't say I was made to feel every welcome tbh and I'm not wasting any energy as I'm not getting worked up at all. And it wasn't a misunderstanding, it was pedantry.

Well, regardless of blanking out the swearing or not it was still out of line. And as for pedantry, the terminology suggested to you is widely used and it is helpful for everyone if it is clear what is meant so that responses can be as accurate as possible. This forum is the most welcoming I've known, I'm sorry that you feel unwelcome.

Hang on....read back through the thread, you were asked what type of garage you went to, nothing pedantic about that. The reason you were asked was because it was important to the accuracy of the answer you got back. I did mention this which you clearly chose to ignore.

I work 50 hours a week have kids to look after and animals to walk yet I, and hundreds of fellow members here do as well, come on every nght to help and I must add that 99.9% of people asking questions are grateful of the FREE help & advice they receive from the forum. I'm sorry if you feel that we haven't helped you enough so all I can recommend is taking the car to a garage and pay.

Errrr....I didn't ask for help :D My problem is solved and was so before I responded to the thread. If you read my posts you'll see that I was responding to the person who was recommending the removal of the DPF and saying that my experience was the same. If I ever need some help and I get it I'll be as grateful as everyone else.

And actually, if you read back through the thread yourself you'll see that your first response to me was basically to accuse me of lying. You said you found it hard to believe that any dealer would remove the DPF. It was obvious what I meant but you chose to go on at me about it. Still, we all have bad days.

Your initial post indicated (quite clearly) that the dealer took the DPF out and reset the 'epu'. A dealer will not remove the DPF and 'reset' the ECU and it was this I was trying to clarify with difficulty, an independent would ...it was this fact that I was to establish, that is not 'pulling someone up'. If you dont like the fact that we don't call independent garages dealers then tough because thats the terminology we use.

Now please tell me via PM where I called you (or implied you are) a liar!
