Hi all
Does anybody know who makes the engine for the jtd's?? Is it a Fiat design??
My local mechanic swears that the engine is designed by Mercedes and shares the same plant as their Vanio??? Just wondered if there is anything in this in the way that vw,skoda, audi share parts and ford/jaguar etc do the same.
Anyone know? I take it the jtd is the same unit as fitted to the multipla and the commercial van range but all with different ecu chips/bhp ratings.
Cheers.

The 1.9JTD engine is a Fiat design, which is now also used by Vauxhall / Opel in various vehicles. As for the mercedes connection, it could have been bought by them and re-badged (it is a bloody good engine in (my experience) after all).

definately fiat and now used by vauxhall

And Saab.

The modern common rail Diesel was invented by Fiat, and given to Bosch to work up the software for production.

Fiat's Diesels are as good if not better than any of the rest. Simple as that!

Oh, I forgot, and Vauxhall in this country. Which is really Opel of course. In fact General Motors still uses all Fiat diesels, including the new 1300, in their own models. So why notsimply do the job properly and buy a Fiat::D :D

And the JTD IS used in the Multipla, and the new Grande Punto, and the Doblo, and , and ,and...its probably the world's best two litre Diesel. Simple.
Sorry to go on, I'm trying to write something else, and getting indignant 'cos Fiat has been going since 1899 and has produced some of the world's seminal cars - and is still doing so. There: feel better now...(y)
