It's a real barsteward to get off. My mate, who's a retired deisel fitter, did mine and the way he did it was to remove the offside drive shaft and and mounting bracket, then he had to take off the alternator complete with bracket just to see the pump!!
The 3 bolts holding the pump on are well recessed so a lot was done by feel unless of course you have the luxury of a ramp (he did it on his back with the use of axle stands). In total R & R took about 3-4 hours. To cap it all the fault wasn't with the pump after all but with the alternator so virtually all the procedure had to be done again to renew that. I now have a perfectly servicable pump (only done 40k) sat in my garage having spent out 260 euros for a new one!! Life is a bummer
