well my thrust bearing gave up the ghost yesterday afternoon.. I managed to get home with lots of squealing!

phoned round today, got a few quotes of £440 ish...

but Mr Clutch came in at £245 in Northampton, but couldn't do it till next week....then bletchley came in at £270 and would do it today, the guy on the phone kept saying it was a 1200, and I kept saying, no it's a 1300 diesel, the multijet one... but took it in anyway at about 11, and collected at 5.30.. with the guy whinging about info being wrong, I pointed out that I kept telling him it was a 1300 not a 1200 (even though it's 1248, I think) but he didn't try to quibble price!

so I was pretty happy with that!

is the 1200 the petrol, or was there an earlier diesel version, I thought they did something to the clutches in 2006, as puntos were notorious for the thrust bearings going? or is that just in my head?

the original petrol Doblo was a 1200 then they changed it to a 1400 for the UK market. There's a 1600 petrol too but I don't think it was ever sold in the UK.
There was never a 1200 Diesel, only the 1.9 or the 1.3.

ooh well.... read tonight that fiat and ford are sharing the 1.3 diesel engine now, so is that the same engine in the fiat, vauxhall and ford?

Was the bearing noisy for a while before it failed? My release bearing on my 1.2 petrol Doblo has been noisy for the last couple of years but it's a lot of work to change a bit that's not doing anything except when the clutch is in.......

no,started making a noise when I got in to go out, but only when clutch was depressed..... drove it about a mile to merchants, when I got back in noise was still there but struggled to get first, but was ok when engine and box were both spinning, just noisy when clutch pressed....

drove to job (5 miles or so) and had to start in gear to move, and stop and restart to get reverse.... drove 5 miles home
.
next morning again started in gear or couldn't get into gear but could only get 2nd and 4th, struggled to get anywhere and noise all the time... just about got to mr clutch.... the fitter said it had half worn through the fingers
