I've had my JTD SX for about four years and had no problems with the central locking until recently. Now the tailgate doesn't open or lock so I have to manually use the key. The other doors are fine. Is this something I can fix myself?

Thanks

not got a doblo yet....

but this was in problems and solutions sticky......

Rear door Problems

Had a problem opening my rear doors, on unlocking them doors wouldn't open but could be opened with internal door handle, a problem for me when I have a rear bulkhead and no way to get in the back

Found the problem was a the cylinder that moves across to engage the door catch when you turn the key, found that the grease that had been used on this had become stiff and the cylinder became stuck

The easiest way to remedy this was to remove the inside door handle just remove three hexagonal screws and it comes off completely. then spray the locking mechanism with lubricating oil

Hope this is of help to someone as it caused me quite a few problems

don't know if it helps, but maybe

Thanks for the advice. When I press the button on the key I can clearly hear the sound coming from the tailgate as if it is working. I'll try and see if something is loose or if it's seized up.

Thanks again.

Just discovered my tailgate not locking from the remote & has to be done manually.
Found out purely by chance as well, after unlocking the car to get an item out of the boot, I closed the tailgate & pressed the key - everything made all the right noises.
But for some really strange reason I felt I had to check the handle to make sure - and it was still unlocked.
Until I can get around to fixing it, I either lock it manually or leave it against an immoveable object.

How long it had been like this for, who knows? It may have been like this since the day I bought it, after all, you hear the mechanism clunking (as usual) so assume everything is OK.
I would advise all dobby owners to periodically test their tailgate is locking just to be on the safe side.

I had the same thing happening to me, it was a problem of the mechanism that was a little jammed because of the grease and the cold weather. I just sprayed it with some lube and it fixed itself. Should try that before anything else...

From what i can see, no one mentions if they have the single or twin door's...

but generally what ive found... on the single piece doors its possible for the mechanism to go tight, so the solenoid it self hasnt got the power to move the latch, but by doing it with the key its fine... this usually needs a new latch which comes with a new motor anyway..

As for cargo doors its usually the rod's off or mis aligned. Have also had 1 where the spring on the handle wasnt returning the pin correctly meaning it was impossible to open the door due to being miss aligned...

Generally thou pop the trim off and you should be able to easily see the failure

Well, I've got the cargo double doors and this thread has been very informative during the recent cold weather.

Mine did suffer from the grease snarling up the spring and cleaning it off with WD40 and then reapplying fresh oil made everything good again, so that problem isn't exclusively for single boot door models.

That's a very good question. I haven't had such a close relationship with the other doors for that very reason - so I can't comment on whether the locking mechanism is the same.

But if they are the same - then the reason it's always the back that gets the problem is probably to do with the amount of crap that the Doblo sprays all over it's back side when there's salt on the roads! My back wiper broke in half when it was really frosty, probably when I tried to turn it on while it was stuck to the back window - and I can tell you I've never had such a nasty job as cleaning the back window every 50 miles or so just after the snow had finished.

If some of that doesn't work it's way in to the back locking mechanism I'll eat my woolly hat!

When I've pressed the button on the key, I've sometimes tried the door handle - if a door isn't quite shut properly the whole thing doesn't lock.
It just so happened that on this occasion I'd previously locked the car then later went to the back to get out some gear, I closed the tailgate & blipped the key. Everything lit up as usual and I just happened to try the handle - previously I gently pulled the plastic trim over the number plate to check if it was shut properly.
The amount of carp chucked up at the back shouldn't really effect the mechanism inside (since I've had my airtabs on, the amount of carp on the back has seriously reduced).

It's clear that it's a design fault with the tailgate mechanism, lucky it's very easy to fix. If it happens often, I'm thinking of drilling a little hole in the interior plastic panel of the tailgate, to be able to spray lube on the mechanism as often as it's needed without removing anything. I used a bike chain lube and it worked just fine.

Found on my tailgate that the allen screws that attach the catch assembly to the body work loose which means the solenoid does not push far enough to lock, tightened them up no more problem.

Hi John the Sparky,
I have the same problem on with the rear door not opening.
Problem is the door is shut.
The key seems to be locking and unlocking but the door catch will not open
I have sprayed WD40 through the lock but doesn't seem to penetrate the catch...as yet.
Next step maybe to remove the interior bulkhead, but not sure how easy yet
The van belongs to my son's girlfriend who has just arrived over from Antwerp
Any ideas would be great
Thanks

ok I have a 2007 doblo "family" with like half the problem your having, it unlocks on the central locking but won't lock again. you have to do it manually but when you unlock the car again it unlocks the back door again :bang: i'd rather it just stayed locked!
