Hi,

My Doblo (1.9JTD) has an intermittent suspension knock on what I think is the front nearside. Haven't really investigated yet by having a good look on my back - wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem and what was the solution and cost? The knock is only heard when the wheel falls away, i.e. on potholes, not bumps. However on cobbles recently the knock was constant as long as I was on cobbles. Any ideas anyone?

hi, it might be the bottom ball joint, you could try jacking the car up and see if you can feel any play in the wheel, you cant allways detect play because of the spring pushing down so you have to lift the wheel realy hard, another way is to do what some mot testers do and put a small crow bar onto the top of the wishbone and prize it up where it connects to the bottom part of the hub assembley, ive not done one of these on a doblo but did bothe sides on a peugeot 806 because of exactly the same symtoms. if it turns out its not the ball joint you could look for more obvious stuff like wheel nuts not tight enough (it happens!) track rod end (unlikely) wheel bearing, but it sounds more like ball joint to me, i have a doblo 1.9jtd its got new wishbones both sides when i bought the car, the ball joints are pressed into the wishbone so you will proberbley have to buy the lower wishbone arm complete with the ball joint allthough you may have to check on this as in the past i have dropped new ball joints into the old wishbones, regards. sorry forgot about cost, well, the 806 wishbone from local motor factor charged £51+vat so would think a similar price, dont no about labour ive allways fixed my own cars, good luck.
