hi guys, new to the forum. not hugely familar with doblo's but had to replace the engine in a 2002 1.9jtd for a customer who was too mean to buy a radiator. he supplied an engine which turned out to be useless, blow from filler cap could fly a kite. second replacement engine supposed to be perfect, only 40k but it won't start. i've fitted injectors from origional engine, replaced most of the switches and ancillaries from the original also but now i realise i have no power going to ecu.i removed both plugs from the ecu and in the larger plug i have only earths in the larger pins and in the smaller plug i have neither lives or earths, i didn't check the smaller pins as i presume tey are outputs from the ecu. there is a normal pattern from the crank angle sensor but no power at the inectors either. scaned with launch showed crank angle sensor fault but changed for original and the fault cleared. the only other fault which also cleared was a synchronisation fault, presumably also from the crank sensor. any suggestions much appreciated:cry:

Hi, welcome to the FF.

I don't have a manual for the Doblo JTD but I suspect the pinouts from a 2000 Bravo 1910 JTD should be the same.

I believe the JTD ECU is electronicaly matched to the injection pump and the immobiliser CODE box, in which case you would need them all from the same car or I think they can be realigned with the Fiat Examiner equipment. Maybe this would explain your "synchronisation fault".

Dave.

thanks Dave, should have mentioned that the injector or high pressure pump had been reconditioned less than 12 months ago so i fitted the known good pump complete with belt, tensioner and water pump.i was checking for power with the plugs disconnected from the ecu yesterday but it obviously needs them plugged in to give an earth to a relay and them power the ecu because pins 4 and 5 have power with the plugs connected and checking for power at the rear of the plugs, but still no power at the injectors and still therefore no sign of it to fire.

i've checked already, i think twice butare there any plugs which are interchangable, in other words could i be stupid enough to hace two components wrong.i recall the pressure switch on the fuel rail and another plug looking similar but they not exactly, thanks

I think all manufacturers now design wiring looms to be foolproof for when the car is being assembled on the production line. If it's possible for 2 branches from a main loom to reach 2 components then it should have different shape or colour coded connectors.

Dave.

Just a thought, your customer was too mean to buy a rad so ended up frying the engine. He then brings you some manky old lump & asks you to fit it but it's a no-go. He then buys another dodgy lump for you to fit & that is also giving you problems.
The motor is a 6y/o dobbin.
At what point will your charges come close to the value of the car?
Bearing in mind this guy is a tightwad, will he be prepared to pay?
If he does pay, will he keep coming back with ridiculous 'faults' that are 'your fault'?
Just that this scenario is quite familiar.

all very valid points sludgeguts and that point has long since past where it was economically viable but the chances of collecting for any of the work are rather slim if it's not running and as you pointed out i don't badly need a 6 year old doblo as remuneration. besides when did mechanics like cars getting the better of them??
