Blowing 20A Fuses After Service

Strange one this. Just had our 05 JTD serviced + MOT'd at 37,000 miles. The warranty had just run out, so we thought we 'd give our local garage the business rather than the Arnold Clark dealer in Aberdeen. Car was fine before service. Was picked up yesterday afterenoon, had a few local runs last night. This morning car dead. only peripheral power. Garage took car away, and replaced a 20A fuse. Not sure which one. Missus picked up car. Stopped at local shop, dead again. Garage replaced 20A fuse again. Will look at again tomorrow.
My question is, something must have been disturbed during the service, to cause this, but what?
Looking through previous posts, the only similar problem was traced to a fusebox plug, surely they couldn't have been poking around in there.

Any help/opinions/comment welcome.

cheers

George

Re: Blowing 20A Fuses After Service

A quick update.
After getting home and checking under the bonnet, it looks like the culprit fuse is F03, which is the ignition switch, according to my manual. The garage have put in a 30A fuse to get my missus home. Have taken it it for a local run, and stopped and started it a few times. No problems, but am a bit uncomfortable with the larger fuse. What's causing the excessive current pull, and could it be linked to the service?
Any ideas as to why it was blowing?

Re: Blowing 20A Fuses After Service

All fixed.
The garage took it away this morning to get to the bottom of things. Apparently, a small bit of wire had somehow fallen down and was shorting out around the starter motor, blowing the fuse. Wire removed, hey presto.
The garage think it may have fallen from their mechanics sleeve or something. And they haven't charged us any extra, which was nice.

A pretty obscure fault, but it maybe helpful to others in the future.

pip pip

Re: Blowing 20A Fuses After Service, UPDATE, Starter motor failed!

The saga continues.
Car wouldn't start again. This time, all the lights on, and the solenoid clicking. Breakdown man diagnosed knackered starter motor. Car bump started OK.
Funnily enough after previous problems, see http://www.fiatforum.com/doblo/15081...eed-knock.html, didn't trust the previous garage. Asked around and found a local 'man who can'. He had an imaculate Lotus Elan and Etype in his drive/workshop, so hopefully he's done a good job.
Starter motor replaced, and all seems to be well.
All this fuse blowing, and now this. Makes me wonder, could the afore-mentioned 'shorting wire' have caused the starter motor to fail prematurely, or is it a case of the warranties up, time for things to fail? Its the first starter motor I've had fail.

cheers

George
