Oil change warning

First let me say hello, as this is my first post on the doblo forum, though ive been posting on the new panda one. Ive owned doblos since 2001, and last december bought my 4th, a 3 month old 600 mile 1.9 multijet dynamic 120. At 8500 miles a message came up on the dash display saying change engine oil.Went to fiat dealer and was told it was because it has a DPF and has done mainly short journeys.Was quoted 83 pounds and they say they wont change it again at the 12000 mile service but that the warning could come back on again at anytime, as it works out when it needs changing.All seems a bit odd in these days of long service intervals,the oil looks nice and clean and it hasnt used any.Any body had any experience of this?

What oil did they use!

The minimum is a semi synth 10w 40 but would recommend you use the fully snythetic grade 5w 40 selenia wr or equilivant.

Just had my 24000 mile service using selenia 5w 40 fully synthetic and its polls apart in relation to the 10 w 40 semi I had in previous.

Its better in every department but does maintain a cleaner oil.
So allthough a tad dearer would be ideal for short journeys and may help with the frequent oil changes.

Its a diesel ! even after a oil change the oil will be black due to deposits but this is perfectly normal.

The oil change light is dependent of many factors (mileage/temperature etc) most important thing is did they reset the oil change (not service) light?
