My headlight flasher on the Doblo became intermittent and now is not working at all. The full beam selection is also not working. Is it possible to strip the switch down, or is it a new switch, or could the problem be elsewhere?

My 05 Family does this as well. If I try to flash someone (there must be a better way of phrasing that) my headlamps go out. When I try to put the lamps on Hi beam they go out for a couple of seconds and then come on (hi beam) although the blue light on the dash comes on straight away. However I've found out that if I push the stalk slightly diagonally down as well as backwards I don't have this problem, so I've assumed that it's a loose wire somewhere. As it's not three years old yet (it will be in april) I'm taking it to Fiat to sort out. Does anyone know if this will be covered in the 3rd year warranty?

Thanks for your replies. The blue light is not illuminating and I cannot hear the relay clicking. I have a horrible feeling that the whole switch cluster comes as one unit! I must check to see if my Doblo is on a 3 year warranty although I seem to think that it was only two.

i have a 2005 active jtd which does exactly the same as the above! it scared the crap outta me the first time on a dark country lane flicked for main beam and out went the dipped for a few seconds before they came on!! i dont have a warranty as brought the car second hand and the previous owner had let it lapse i will be very interested to hear what the standard or dealer fix is for this :)

Had similar problems with MrsO's 05 Dobbin, not long after we bought it. Dealer tried a new relay, but ended up replacing the steering column switch.
If you bought the car new you should have the third year warranty. I would suggest telling the dealer that you know other people with cars of similar age, who have had the same problem and imply that there could have been a faulty batch of switches!!

I have this problem with my 2005 1.9JTD

There will be a delay when i pull the high beam, and this delay will become longer and longer over time (from few sec to >30sec).

Strange thing is that, once the high beam light up, subsequent high beam will be able to flash immediately until the next day.

In the end the service center got to changed the whole control unit, and the new unit also give me the same problem few months later

Imagine I got to pull the high beam for emergency and found that it is not working :bang:

At last I have got around to contact Autoworld about the switch problem. I was a bit concerned as he did not know definitely that the switch is covered on the warranty, but thought that it should be. He also said that they will make a diagnostic charge of £35. How did others fare with their switch problem?

I didn't get mine done. It was an intermittant fault which 'cured' itself. Of course now my Doblo is over 3 years old (2 weeks ago) the fault came back again just after it passed it's MOT. I'm sure it must be a loose connection but I won't get a chance to check it out till the weekend.

Yeah I've had the same problem with my main high beam since the car was new. I go to put the main beam on and my lights go out. Before the 3 year warranty ran out I contacted fiat and asked if it could be repaired under the warranty. Well first of all they said I'd have to have a diagnostic test costing £50. Then they would contact the warranty company and ask them if it was covered. But it may not be covered under good old "wear and tear " !! So i said to the recepionist.....I pay £50 for you to tell me my lights switch is faulty and then it may or may not be covered !!! :bang: So that 3rd year of the warranty is a bit of a joke
So i just put up with it now !!

so a garage should strip down the controls to access the wiring connectors & test the output(s) for free, then go out of business as making no money then customers complain on FF there are no dealers near them:confused: Admit £50 is excessive.

Well at least Dick Turpin wore a mask and stripey jumper !!

Maybe I could get a job at Fiat. I'm no rocket scientist but I could have told them that the switch was faulty without stripping it all down.
If they go out of business its because they price themselves out.
Oddly enough tho, our main dealer at Swansea, Eric Ashmole went bust yesterday after many years of being there. And I suppose I'm sorry to see them go

I don't have this problem but I want to get at the right hand stalk switches. Does anyone know how you remove the front column trim cover? Does the steering wheel have to come off?

My dealer (Vale motors of Wincanton) are replacing my light switch under warranty, and it's in the 3rd year too.
It has exactly the same problem, lights going out when you switch to main beam.
While I've been waiting for the new switch I've repaired the old one by squirting a little bit of WD40 under the rubber cover and wiggling the switch. It works fine now.
I told my dealer that I got it working but they still want to replace it under the warranty.

Thanks for that Rich, I'll try the wd 40 trick tomorrow
I wish my dealer insisted that they change that faulty switch. After all if its faulty then they should change it

I use contact cleaner (as recommended on another thread) from Maplins.
I mentioned the problem to my dealer & they said if there was a problem it would be covered under yr 3 warranty BUT, if they stripped everything & couldn't find a fault I'd be liable for the bill (fair enough).
As the fault is intermittent I can't see the point in taking it in, a few squirts of cleaner does the job.

they've replaced mine under warranty now and it's working fine (y)

If your dealer is unsure get them to give Vale motors a call, they'll soon put them straight.
