Hi
Does anyone know how feasible and cost effective (compared to just buying the family version in the first place) it is to convert the standard 5 seat Doblo to a 7 seater?
Cheers
S

I've got the 7 seater and I don't think it would be easy to convert using the original seats. The seat mountings are recessed into the floor.
You'll have to have a look at one to see what I mean.
It could even work out cheaper to trade in for a 7 seater, or use one of these conversion specialists and have non-Doblo seats.

As a young lad I'd sometimes go fishing with my mate & his dad. We'd all go in his dad's builder's van.
Unfortunately, the van only had one seat.
My mate sat up front (on an upturned beer crate) with his dad whilst I had the luxury bag of sand / cement / plaster in the back.

Ahhhh, fond memories.
I remember one return journey when the wipers packed in, we repaired the fuse with the requisite piece of silver out of the fag packet - but that made matters worse.
in the end, my mate's dad disconnected the linkage from the motor & tied some fishing line to the wiper arms.
All the way home my mate had to operate the wipers, pulling one side then the other :D

Thinking about it, the wipers weren't repaired the following week soI guess his dad was operating the fishing line whilst driving:eek:

The good old days of happy motoring.

You can bolt new seats in the back, but there are laws/inspections etc. plus you have to notify the DVLA to change of vehicle etc etc.

It's a bit of a grey area I suppose if you want to do it yourself

Whereas a couple of beanbags...
;)

Actually, I worked at a coachbuilders for a while, installing tracking to accept seats/ wheelchair restraints. The whole floor had to be reinforced to accept the tracks as it was designed to accept a seat at any point along its length.
Prior to this we had fixed points for seats & these had to be set into reinforced mounts.
It isn't just as simple as offering up a seat, drilling through the mounting holes into the floor & whacking in a nut/bolt - braking hard would see the seat being ripped from the floor.
Our seats were reinforced bench seats incorporating all the seatbelt & the system was crash tested.
