New to the fourm so though I would see what some of you guys could tell me about my central locking issue.

Just got my 1.9JTD through its first MOT. Failed 1st time on Windscreen (the swipe area is far to big on these vans the chip was at the edge and caused no issues when driving) and emissions 5.25 when it must be below 3.0. Anway I changed the air filter and put some Wurth common rail diesel cleaner in the fuel, went on a long blast driving the van hard and it passed today with a reading of 1.45. The stuff cost £15 but seems well worth it. Improved the drive overall as well.

My question about the locking is this, the central locking no longer works. If you use the remote the lights flash but the doors do not lock or unlock. If you put the key in the drivers door it will not activate the others. Any ideas? Where is the central locking control unit? What is the best way is diagnosing the issue. I don't really want to spend a fortune on something that does not effect the drive or safety but it is a pain.

Any hints would be welcome.

Cheers.

Yeah, anything like Diesel magic works a treat on the old emissions! Also improves the responsiveness of the engine for some time as it's cleared out all the soot.

The central locking main actuator is located in the Drivers door I would imagine as this is where the main key is. However it sounds more to me like a fuse has gone/electrical, for nothing at all to happen, even with the Fob it's either packed up completely or it's not getting a supply to power it.

I have simulair problems with the locking sytem but I don't have the answer for you sorry.
I don't have it all the time but just every now and then for the last year and a half. The Fiat dealer didn't see anything wrong with it that's why. Also somethimes when I know for sure I locked my car at night the next morning it's open. I don't know how to help this as they didn't find anything wrong at the dealer. Fuses I checked but nothing wrong there...
Does your doblo also lock the dors when you brake the first time when you drive off? This is also a parttime happening in our car.

Funny you should say this - my dobbin is just over a year old & I have noticed similar - I just put it down to me forgetting to blip it the night before, although I feel certain I have.
What I can say, however, is that my keyfob has a heck of a range & I wonder if I accidentally blip it in my pocket whilst sat watching telly?
(maybe the remote on my (or a neighbour's) telly/hi fi - or even another c/lock? is unlocking?)

Could be but I had it when the car was two blocks away, so I don't think it was that. :) I'm going for the holidays and with a fully loaded car it's not nice when it opens in the middle of a market square in some foreign town. We will see! I think I bring some gaffo tape.(y)

Went to tesco last night, came out with the usual trolleyfull, blipped the fob & opened the tailgate & loaded up.
Shut the tailgate & walked to driver's door ... it was locked!

Might consider buying a humongous padlock:D

Isn't the CLS programmable some how? Also for locking the doors when you are driving the car so now one can open your doors when you are in traffic or something. Mine locks up after drivin of and breaking the first time.

Sludge, luckily one night my Father happened to check mine was locked and the back door opened (set off the alarm). Originally I thought that the receiver that the door locks onto on the floor of the boot needed adjusting and I moved it further toward the door. This didn't solve the problem (just let a lot of air and water through the seal) but what puzzled me was that I could lock the door with the key.

After a lot of fiddling I found out that the mechanism in the back door wasn't lubed up enough and was sticking whilst locking, not having enough force to push the lock shut. I took off the back panel of the tailgate (about 8 screws) and heavily WD40'd the locking mechanism - not had a problem since. Really I should have used grease, but for now it's fine.

Just bear in mind that this was intermittent, some days it would be fine other days it wouldn't lock, so keep an eye on it ;)

Interesting. I had a problem with central locking on my old car, one of the back doors didn't lock properly. Squirted a load of WD40 down the door release button, moved it up & down a load of times & that cured my problem.

Had a bit of a result on my dobbin today(y) , I was stood right beside it as I locked it & noticed a clunk, click. Checked the handle (bit paranoid since fiding it unlocked) & it was unlocked!
blipped the fob again - clunk...click - still unlocked.
Blipped the fob a bit more gently - clunk - & locked.

Maybe that's the problem cured?
Will have to keep an eye - and an ear - on the situation and try not to blip the fob from too far away so I can hear if it locks & unlocks.

Ozzie

An alarm on a Doblo is like an ashtray on a motorbike - pretty to look at but NFU. Who'd steal one? Or do you have it just to annoy the neighbours?

I had it fitted as a present after I bought the Doblo, does come in handy, has to deter a theif! Especially with the Alloys etc. now it shows I care about it! :)

Update on my 'dodgy' central locking. Trying to lock the car today & been a tad paranoid since finding the car unlocked, I now check a door to make sure.
Blipped the fob & heard the double click of lock/unlock.
Tried a few different ways but couldn't get a lock.
No interior lights on & all the doors looked shut - then I noticed one of the sliding doors was slightly out. Opened it & shut it quite firmly & the c/locking worked fine.
I wonder if this is a foible with the car - it could at least warn you somehow that it hasn't locked. I know many people who walk away & lock their cars from a distance as they are walking off, the flashing indicators being a sign that the remote has worked.
I'm now wondering if the times when I've been sure it's locked (but not physically checked) it's not been locked because a door isn't quite fully shut.

I always listen for the sound, most audible from the rear door, if I get the lock sound it's fine, if I get a lock/unlock sound I know something is open. The other benefit of my alarm is that it does a 'toot' if any door is open and you try to lock it... although this doesn't work with the rear door for some reason, so I listen for the lock/unlock sound.

Careful - the lock/unlock sound can cause stress on the little plastic push rod type thingys that operate the lock from the servo in each door. I broke one this weekend.

Seems a little flimsy to me but it's one way for Fiat to make money I suppose.
