Hi,
Was the light on when you picked it up? If it was you don't know what someone else has done to it.
First things to check are fuses including the big ones on the battery connector, The heavy power cable down to the pump, the connectors on the pump (both sides), battery, and of course the fluid level. After that (or before if you already have it) you need to get Multiecuscan on it and see what faults are being reported. A search o here will pull up more information as will a google search for Vectra C power steeering issues. There was a known roblem with wiring looms for the pump and you can get replacements. If it's actually pump failure they are fairly expensive. Note that while the Vectra C pump is physically the same, the imbedded software is different so a Vectra one won't "talk" to the Croma.

Thanks for that....the car had been sat for almost a year without moving then I charged the battery and took it for an MOT. It had very occasionally done this when it was my daily driver i.e. steering going heavy and light coming on. However turning the ignition on and off seemed to cure it!! Another stupid question but how far up the bottle should the fluid be?

regards Tim

Hi,
There is a dip-stick with min and max marks attached to the inside of the cap.
