Latest problem is apparently a worn out steering control arm.

Does anyone know if this is an easy DIY fix or best left to a garage?

Took the car into a garage and got the steering arm and both rear banana arms changed.

Changing the banana arms has cured a knocking sound from the rear of the car which has been annoying me for as long as I can remember and the car handles as well as it has for years.

Cost was £270 for the parts and labour + £29.99 for the MOT at Halfords meaning another year's motoring for £300. Not too bad.
