Hello,

Having a rather annoying problem with my Croma 1.9 MultiJet 16v sometimes juddering/shaking when braking at around 120 - 130 km/h. It's a problem that happens randomly and obviously it doesn't happen when I let a mechanic test-drive the car. I've been having this since March this year.

It feels like warped brake discs, however after braking quite aggressively (with a lot of juddering...), the problem dissolves and the car starts braking normally again, without the juddering. The brake pedal does feel a bit spongy/hard though. I can always hear it, when the problem is about to happen; it sounds like something is pressing on the car and you feel the juddering slightly, as if the brakes are sticking to the car. The juddering increases when pressing the pedal, only to dissolve afterwards if pressed firmly/aggressively.

Anyone experienced something similar? I found a topic of someone having this problem on a Vectra C and solving it by changing the master brake cilinder...

Please help! Otherwise the Croma is a great car, but this is very annoying...

It could be either warped disks or the ABS coming on. Do you know what the ABS feels like hen it's working? Is it like that? If you don't know hat the ABS feels like try braking hard in an empty, preferably wet, car park or similar safe location. Disks can warp and then straighten agan. Th wife's old Ford Focus used to have this fault.
