Had some serious rain here, and now the passenger front footwell is wet. I can see drips coming from the fan housing above. It's definitely water, not coolant.

I assume there is a drain hole near the bulkhead that has become blocked.

Can anybody offer any instructions/tips on how to remove items to easily get at the area?

I'm very concerned about breaking clips etc and it won't go back together again properly....
 
Hi yes it is only a minites job open the bonnet and to the right near the wiper arm there is the access cover for the cabin filter it is held down with what look like plastic screws. Just turn the screw heads a quarter of a turn or so pull at the cover gently until the cam/screws release and the cover comes off. You can see the cabin filter and below this is a drain thing just push some thing like a peice of hose down the drain you should see a gratifying gush as it drains.There is probably a beter description on here some where.:)
 
You could also move somewhere drier,... Like Italy. Thinking about it myself after the rain in Glasgow today.

Have a look at my old thread "scuttle drain DIY fix" where I have included some photos of the whole area and how I fixed it.
Two bits of info -- change the pollen filter while your in there and be careful with the top clips both on the cover and the top corners of the filter housing(y)
 
Quarter turn fasteners, they tend to pop out and disappear. When mine did that it blew the heater fan controller. The lttle rubber pipe that takes the water from the drain hole and directs it round the pollen filter has probably dropped off.

Cleared out the top of the little hole to drain the windscreen water. The pipe was about 4 inches long and I didn't feel like taking it off in case I couldn't get it back on.

The bottom flaps were gunked up. Water cleared immediately. Yay!

Now to dry out the carpet....

If you don't want to disturb the pipe slide another long one over it and ensure you get it well routed away from the pollen filter/air intake housing.
 
I'll have a think about that.. I did move it slightly so the frame of the pollen filter was pushing it in a certain direction.

Anyway, now my heater fan is squeeking like crazy.... sigh. It quietens down a bit when warm, but not totally.

I wonder if this could be lubricated or if I need a new one?

You will regret not changing the tube:rolleyes:.
The only way I could see to permenantly do it was to ensure the new tube was long enough to reach the bottom "flap valve"as you can see in the original post.
My heater motor was squeaking as well but mostly as it was warming up.:p

Go the lubrication route. It may take several goes, and I would suggest you take your time and a careful examination of the motor/fan assembly, but if you lubricate now, clear the crud etc. then you have a much better chance of saving the fan unit with many more serviceable years yet to come. Might not be a smooth/quiet as it used to be as we all know the older the car, the more the noise, rattles, rumbles and groans then we lovingly accept as dedicated and proud owners.

And yes that knocking noise is the other half trying to get in when you go to pick them up but failed to remember "auto-lock" was enabled :eek:
