hi all

first of all sorry for starting yet another power steering thread but I've read all of the others I think and can't find the solution to my problem

first my power steering went hard and stopped working accompanied with the dash bored warning message

so I followed the other threads disconnected the power connector to the pump and cleaned it. this made the pump work however the light and warning is still on the dash.
so off to my friends garage to plug the car in with is snap on diagnostic pc witch he assured me would read any errors, however no faults where found.

so I'm at a loss does any know if you need a fiat computer to read these codes.

also after visual inspecting the pump theirs a connector with 2 or 3 wires witch look like the go to a small black plastic box thing not much bigger than the connecter its self, does any one know what this does as its not attached to any thing

any help appreciated thanks all

Hiya,

I`m guessing its not intermittent and it still stuffed?

I had some issues a few weeks back and after much thought and reading through forums threads, concluded a dodgy alternator + possibly battery. (Aircon + hot day + windey road=power steering failure) essentially, the alternator couldnt power both aircon and power steering simultaneously and was relying on battery to keep things moving. after half hours driving, battery was starting to drain and power steering goes first.winters coming, so might fix it next year.

I`m guessing part of the issue is diesel auto`s dont rev that much under normal driving conditions

i just turn compressor on and off every 5 mins and car is cool and steering works fine

I think steering system has its own ecu, sorry i cant be more helpfull than that

Right solved all the problems ages ago just me not being firm enough with the connector.

Any way the light appeared again when I plugged it in I get a steering angel sensor error
Any ideas

Hello Nick I think we have all had problems with power steering,The Coma brain is quite sensitive and is easily upset by the plug connection that you cleaned. At £8.00 for new plug and leads it would be well worth eliminateing any doubt with that connection but as suggested on here push the thing home firmly.I will try to find where I spotted the £8.00 lead and get back to you.

Hi pretty sure it was parts conection who were selling the leads cheap but no longer unfortunately iether the gm 24451552 or fiat 51844351 will do. As for the angle sensor error just check that the small plug to the pump is firmly in as it could have been displaced in the effort to get to the power plug.

Steering angels? And how do you sense them? Lots of prayer I guess. But then lots of praying is not uncommon to Croma owners.

Well it took a turn for the worse after jumping a nother vherical from my car the power steering died

Again plugged the car in and no response from the pump ecu

So 1 new pump all fixed again
