At the end of September our Croma MkII 1.9 150 had its annual service (120500km or 75000mls) but also included a cambelt change too. As we live in Italy, Croma's are not uncommon. The Fiat garage bill came to €1315 which we thought a bit steep. Current conversion rates equals £1093. Below is the breakdown and the translation for each component with part no. It is just a matter of interest what other forum members think of the prices. All costs include VAT which is 21% in Italy. Three days after its service we drove to UK and used it there for 9 weeks, arriving back Monday Dec. 2nd doing around 11000km (6835mls) without fault. (Brilliant in fact) Yesterday however, the glowplug warning came on. Our garage made a quick check and all are OK, so its going back next Monday for a diagnostic test. Anyway, apologies for the ramble. Here is the list:
Oil filter (71737926) €20.43 £17.13
Air filter (73502069) €28.02 £23.49
Pollen filter (51805219) €36.58 £30.66
Fuel filter (77363657) €93.10 £78.00
Brake pads front (77364168) € 91.20 £76.45
Brake pads rear (77364224) €112.57 £94.36
Distribution kit (71754559) € 170.53 £142.95
Transmission belt (55200252) €27.38 £22.95
Fixed tensioner (51758383) € 36.58 £30.66
Fixed tensioner (51758384) €32.77 £27.47
Mobile tensioner (51773551) € 54.15 £45.40
Water pump (55209993) € 102.00 £85.20
4.5Lt Selena WR 5/30 oil €79.76 £66.86
2Lt Paraflu LP €17.24 £14.45
Air conditioning recharge €25.00 £20.95
Battery €160.00 £ 134.12
Labour (6hrs) @ €30 per hour €217.80 £182.57
€1315.00 £1093.67

  1. The battery went fut 2 weeks earlier and they did come and rescue us and fitted it too.

I'd say many parts in that list are 3x or 4x what its price should be, especially the consumables - £30 for a pollen filter??!

It could be the activated carbon (think its called that) one, they are quite steeply priced.
But the oil, air, fuel filters and brake pads seem bloody extortionate!

I only have semi-oily fingers (e.g. I do filter changes, not oil changes), but I've found a friendly local garage that is happy to fit parts that I supply, bought from ebay/online parts suppliers/wherever. This works for me.

Alternatively, to get exactly the same service as a Fiat dealer, just go to any other garage, pay them £400 all in, then give the remaining £600 to the Fiat dealer, as a gift so they can buy more shiny floor tiles and suits with it.

Opinions are mixed here on Selenia/Paraflu etc. My opinion is it's just part of the Fiat group money extraction plan.

Looks like he paid dealer prices for the parts, but over here (UK) a Fiat dealer would have charged about £700 more for the labour.
I just paid about half his total for a similar job on the 2.4, but including the rather expensive front discs, but it was done at floor level on my drive, and avoided fiat parts.

Thanks for your comments. Judging by some remarks, perhaps the cost was not so overpriced particularly labour. Took car back today to have the glow plugs properly checked. Had two replaced and told to go away, use it for a few days to see if the warning light comes on again. They would not accept any payment either (yet). They are quite a good friendly and very helpful business, though our dealer has just closed the sales garage (no more shiny tiles, and our dealer never wore a suit but did do a natty line in colourful sweaters!) however, the service side has merged with a Bosch Service centre so we shall probably stick with them for the time being.
