Hey I've had my 05 croma 1.9 jtd dynamic for a few weeks now and the power steering has gone, after intermittently going a few times. I took it to the fiat garage today and they told me I need a new power steering pump, aprox £400.
Does any other pumps work for this car or just the fiat one? And is there any second hand ones available?

Before thinking about a new/replacement power steering pump check this forum out.

MANY have had power steering issues on the Croma and it has been been an electrical power & cabling issue that has caused their problems.

The Croma's electric power steering pump requires lots of current to operate and any bad connections, damaged cable, etc. result in power steering issues. In most cases the cleaning and security of the pump power cables resolves the issues. Quite a few people have replaced their pump's main power cable and resolved all issues.

Suggest you do some forum searching before spending money on a new power steering pump.

Echo s130 100% as what happened to you happened to me a few months ago.

The new cable (from a VX dealer to fit a Vectra) was less than £15 and seems to have cured the problem.

£400 seems like a lot to supply and fit the pump as well but I whilst the vectra pumps look identical (and are cheap on ebay) I seem to remember that there would have been a problem with the electronics.

Go on to seekpart24.de and see how much the pump for yours is if it turns out that the cable isn't the problem. That'll let you see how much the garage is charging for labour.

Thanks guys, but surely the fiat garage diagnostic machine would pick up this problem rather than tell me it's the pump. I have seen a lot of people with this problem I might just check out the lead before I buy the pump.

And the price is €365 which is approx £300 so fingers crossed it's not that that's the problem.

I'm sure I found a source that was a lot cheaper and I'll have a hunt around at the weekend.
