Hi Everyone,
I'm going to get the timing belt changed on my 8v 1.9jtd soon and I'm wondering what parts to get.

I see eurocarparts have got an SKF kit on sale this weekend for £87.60 and a Circoli water pump for another £19.92.

Are there any other parts that anyone would recommend I get changed at the same time?

I'm also going to order the nightbreaker plus gold edition twin pack headlamp bulbs for £14.99, egr (£56.34), air filter (£4.68), pollen filter (£7.68), air con cleaner (£4.20) and an oil filter (£4.08) and sump plug (£2.78) whilst I'm at it to get it ready for winter but the timing belt change is the big job and any advice anyone can give would, as always, be very much appreciated.

Thanks Dave.

Would you whether that would be part of the timing belt kit or is there a separate aux belt kit?

Whilst your doing the cambelt, check for any play on the bottom aux drive belt pulley. They're prone to failure, and seeing as it will have to come off anyway for the cambelt it's worth checking.

Also didn't notice a fuel filter on your list. Obv depends when it was last changed etc, but they're not expensive or difficult to change

Yeah 8v and 16v have almost identical setup. The rubber damper in the pulley gives up and the two can separate. Like you say, only a few mm away from the cambelt!

I've got one already from when I tried to change it myself but couldn't get the fuel line pipe clips out of their housings and put it into a garage instead :(

I'm not going to be defeated this time though.

Just fitted the Osram Nightbreaker Pkus Gold Editiom headlamp bulbs and I can't believe how much better they are than the standard bulbs (can't remember the exact make but I think they were Bosch from Halfords and cost about £8.99 each).
The standard bulbs aren't exactly poor but these ones are so much better.
Definitely worth the money.

Indeed. Mine broke while driving, but nothing happened. I've only heard a metal noise and kept going. Lucky for me the outer part of the pulley fell off in the plastic shield and the belt kept running on the inner part of the pulley, as you can see the marks in the photos.

Another IMHO stupid engine design feature of modern engines:

List keeps growing every year:

Plastic cambelt tension adjuster
Plastic belts stretcher/guidance pulleys
Waterpumps as part of cambelt running gear
Now we have two part solid steel pulleys held together by rubber

All just accidents / failures waiting to happen all for the sake of cost, weight and noise.
All to most likely fail outside of warranty period.
All potentially costing a wrecked engine.

Finally got the timing belt, etc., changed at the weekend. It had done nearly 86k from new (56 plate) so not before time. As it was all of the bits, belts included, were all in pretty good condition with no play visible in any of the tensioners and only a minimal amount of wear visible on the belt itself.

Still, I feel much better driving it now that it's done.

And I'm still loving the Nightbreakers. Has anyone changed the other bulb (H1 fitting I think?) for an upgraded one?

Preventitive maintenance.Cant beat it.My 2.4 due for a belt change now.Done 35k since last change.
