Hi - hopefully somebody can help me!

The alternator failed on my 1.9 16V last week and after being replaced today, the electric steering didnt work. The garage did not have the electronics to reset, but as I have the full Multi ECUscan, thought - no problem, I can do it.
The thing is, the ECU wont connect and even with a Proxy Alignment, the problem was not solved. In fact, now it looks as if the module is not even recognised.

I am wondering if during the alternator work, the electric steering loom was affected - other posts here suggest it could be a connector.

Can anybody give some advice?

Where are the connectors? Phots would be a great help.

Thanks

Was it a genuine Fiat part which was fitted when the alternator was fitted?

Its well known that a lot of the pattern parts available are not upto scratch with the power demands needed for vehicles with high demand electronics such as EPS etc.

Well documented in the Grande Punto section I believe.

Hello We had much trouble with our Croma's power steering's intermittent failures
(usually somewhere scary) I changed the power lead from the battery to the steering pump. Getting to the pump connection involves shoving your left hand down behind the
alternator and find the large plug there is a tab on the plug, press this in to unlock it and with your other hand pull the thick red cable you might have to unwind/cut some sticky tape.I replaced this lead with a new GM part 24451552 which has a silicone rubber cover to the plug and it's been fine since. The photos show the burnt out spade connector I don't think that the pumps ecu can cope with all that arcing.(y)
